Desean Jackson signs with Rams

Recommended Posts

It was the most logical signing from need for the Rams, want to for Jackson and the matching of contract demands while being Cap strapped

I know the biggest concern is health, and they are laying that on pretty thick in the General Forum. But obviously I dont see us using him the same way that Philly tried to for the past few years (as much as a #1 option for Wentz).

If youre looking at about 200 snaps for him through out the season, thats 10+ per game. And if he has one IR stint with a soft tissue injury, youre looking at 20ish snaps per game. Thats plenty for your 4th WR and deep threat specialist. Not to mention, if he does have one of his patented soft tissue injuries this year, I do feel he will be alittle more eager to work himself back quicker than in the past few years on a team who is a playoff favorite.

While Demarcus Robinson just got 1.1 M for a year...

They don't know how to negociate contract...they gave him a lot of money and i don't think others teams were interested in him...

You get that the vet-minimums of D-Jax and Robinson are different due to accrued years of service per the CBA, right?

A little but not much better, still too much.

John Ross, who is younger, but has never done anything remotely memorable in his career signed for 1yr 2.25Mil.

DeSean Jackson, who is older and injury prone, but has the most 60+ yard TD receptions in NFL history signed 1yr 2.75Mil deal that has incentives based on availability (injury risk✔️) and performance (age ✔️). We also managed to tie a 1.25Mil incentive to the teams success !

If he hits all of these benchmarks and makes the max of this deal it means he A. Played   B. Balled tf out C. We made the playoffs and the team improved.

Maybe i'm wrong but it looks like the base salary is more than the veteran minimum.

If he hits benchmarks nobody at all is going to be upset.

DJax hitting those benchmarks isn't tied to us making the playoffs at least Rams fans better hope not because reality tells us he won't see the 50% bonus or the vast majority of those gameday bonuses.

This changes nothing other than it's easier to swallow. Yes you can try to paint the signing with rose colored glasses with what he's done in the past for 60+ yard TD but the last one he did he hurt himself celebrating after having been out almost all year. Chances are higher it's a waste of a roster spot and whatever money he ends up collecting. He's also likely to stand in the way of a young WR during training camp unless he gets hurt that early.

If he hits his benchmarks, everyone will rejoice. If he doesn't, then the signing is pretty much on par with what Ross got and people spoke favorably about that deal.

And we usually sit rookies for a year before we expect them to play a prominent role so this signing really has no short term impact on a rookie WR; they would of likely played minimal snaps anyway. VJ only saw snaps due to injuries to Reynolds/Kupp.

I'm in the minority but I do like this. To me, Jackson has still shown enough flashes lately that I'd rather pay more to get him than someone like John Ross. Our training staff can hopefully do their voodoo to keep him healthy enough.

Plus, I kind of doubt John Ross would have wanted to come here. He's looking to show himself and work on his next contract. The role we were looking to fill isn't likely to get enough targets to do that.
