I'd vote for Laquon Treadwell over Ponder. At least Ponder had some wheels, sort of

True.  I remember Treadwell being thought of as the best receiver in that entire draft.  I was so happy when he fell to us and we took him.  I guess now we know why he fell to us.  Hahaha.

Josh Rosen. Easily Rosen. Dude was a statue. It's not like his arms are massive, or anything. He just has probably the tightest spiral and one of the best throwing motions I've ever seen, though. Lets the ball just explode out of his hand. But he's a bad athlete in comparison to NFL players. And then we drafted Kyler Murray the next year, who literally moves like no other QB in the NFL. Mwahahahaha.

In round 2... Markus Golden, maybe? Golden isn't really an impressive athlete, but his motor is fantastic. Byron Murphy tested below average in the 40, scary-short arms, below-average bench, hand size, weight, broad jump. Received a 49/100 from NFL Combine Results.

Steve Keim typically drafts great athletes. A lot of the guys end up busting because of character, football IQ, not having a position, etc. And not just in the first round. Keim REALLY likes to draft burners. He'll often draft guys that are undersized in favor of speed. Many of his recent draft picks have had incredibly low size measurements, but have tested really well in explosion drills, like the 40, outstanding 10-yard splits, vertical, and broad jump. I mean, Keim could be a Raiders GM. Since he took over, we've taken:

  • Isaiah Simmons
    • 93 percentile height, 98.6 percentile 40, 97.7 percentile splits, 91.5 percentile vertical, 99.2 percentile broad jump.
  • Kyler Murray
    • Multi-sport 1st-round draftee, otherworldly agility, great speed, strong arm
  • Byron Murphy
    • One of the less athletic Keim picks, but likely would have tested really well in the shuttle and three-cone. But yeah, not a great athlete.
  • Andy Isabella
    • 98.9 percentile 40
  • Josh Rosen
    • Good size at 6'4", 226, but below average as an athlete.
  • Christian Kirk
    • 82.3 percentile hands, 4.47 40, 89 percentile 10-yard split, 88.6 percentile bench
  • Haason Reddick
    • 99.7 percentile 40, 99.4 percentile 20, 97 percentile 10, 89.5 percentile vertical, 99.7 percentile broad jump, 91.3 percentile 3-cone
  • Budda Baker
    • 92.3 percentile 40, 90.2 percentile 20, 84.4 percentile shuttle, 89.6 percentile 3-cone.
  • Robert Nkemdiche
    • 94.5 percentile 40, 90.3 percentile 20, 96.2 percentile 10, 97.6 percentile vertical, 96.3 percentile broad jump.
  • DJ Humphries
    • 82.7 percentile 40, 85.5 percentile vertical
  • Markus Golden
    • Eek. High-effort.
  • Deone Bucannon
    • 89.1 percentile 40, 90.6 percentile 10, 83.3 percentile broad jump
  • Troy Niklas
    • Not your typical Keim pick. Big and strong, but not explosive. 95.3 percentile height, 94.1 percentile weight, 93.5 percentile bench
  • Jonathan Cooper
    • 91.8 percentile 40, 95.5 percentile 20, 95.1 percentile bench, 83.1 percentile broad jump
  • and Kevin Minter

All in the first two rounds. Like, in general, you see a lot of Keim eschewing standard conventions about size and targeting smaller guys who are really speedy or explosive. So yeah, he could be a Raiders GM!

The browns are heading that way too.

Under sachi, myles, peppers, and njoku were very athletic picks.

Ward is a sparq freak, chubb  is too.

Jedrick Wils and Delphit are great athletes and was donovan peoples jones.

Nothing wrong with picking athletes imo, not many non athlete football players make it. Scooby wright is a good example.high motor, football iq, not nfl quality

Right. The thing that's Keim's Achilles heel is drafting guys who are great athletes, but don't really have a defined position. Those guys take a lot longer to develop, and a lot of those tweeners need stability and/or systems built around them. I'm talking about guys like Deone Bucannon, Haason Reddick, or Isaiah Simmons. Guys who either can't just be an every-down player their expected position because of size limitations, no matter how athletic they are, or guys who are TOO versatile with their skill-set that Keim won't commit to them at any one place, instead giving them limited snaps and a questionable role.

For the Browns.

Nate Orchard. He was a small medium paced at best olb/pass rusher for the browns. Had a couple of good games against bad competition- truly nothing special on the field.

Mitchell Schwartz. He is a slow moving guy who became the best pass blocking rt in the nfl for the chiefs. Early in his career got dominated by Khalil mack. His biggest asset his how enormous he is. He is massive.

Danny Shelton IMO is the least athletic by far.

In actual thought - Texans draft higher end athletes in the 1/2, but DT Amobi Okoye comes to mind. It seems like he was drafted simply because he was 19 years old.

Brian Cushing was a fraud in regards to his athletic ability - so he also qualifies.

Kareem Jackson wasn't an athletic marvel, but was savvy as hell - he actually worked out very well as a Texan.

Texans usually take athletes in the 1/2, and go 3rd round and on for the low upside athletes.
