Seahawks moving on from DT Jarran Reed

For a team that wants to go all-in this year (Lockett, Reed, Duane Brown, Adams & Diggs all UFA's after this year) - trying to haggle over a couple of million is pretty dumb.   Not like they have an in-house guy ready to step up, IIRC.

If it's only 5-6M, a lot of teams would kick the tires - Denver included.

Brockers got a 2023 7th rounder. Highly doubt Seattle would get something much better. Probably jsut end up getting outright cut.

Team is high on 3rd year player Bryan Mone and 2nd Year player Cedric Lattimore. Id imagine Mone (barring FA) is the week 1 starter there. Probably see alot more snaps from Hyder, Green and Collier at the 3T on passing downs. Could also use the 8.5 million in savings to bring in a vet as well.

If they're cutting Reed to save 8.5M, using it to bring in a vet for the DL would be a mind-boggling bad move.   Maybe one of the young guys is ready - but then you might as well allocate the 8M+ elsewhere.    I don't think it's a great move given how thin the SEA D roster is in impact players, but I certainly would have to reinvest it elsewhere to justify this roster-wise.

Yeah not ideal. Reed's level of play really jumped once Dunlap got in.

Sounds like cap space had to be made, and for some reason the team refuses to extend guys like Lockett and Brown, or do anything with Russ's contract.

Alot of this becomes bearable if Seattle ends up signing Dunlap or even someone like Geno Atkins. Might see Hyder/Collier/Green in Reed's spot alot more as well. In late 2019, Quenton Jefferson was playing there ALOT. All three guys have a similar skill set.

uhhhhh releasing your ONLY pass rusher worth a damn is a very bold move. He's a very, VERY good player.

He literally had 10 sacks back when they had other decent players around him like Frank Clark and was very inconsistent otherwise. Would not say he is VERY good. Solid player but inconsistent. Not great at anything. I think they try to sign Dunlap now. Collier takes over full time. Good move by Seattle. Reed is very expendable

I think we just be patient and see what happens. Pete and JS do make their fair share of bone head decisions though. Hopefully they have a plan here

Reed isn’t even our best pass rushing DT. This is an example of box score scouting. Reed is essentially a clean-up artist when edge players force passers to step up.

Don’t get me wrong, he’s a good player who should be starting for a team, but to suggest he’s a pass rush threat or anything resembling irreplaceable is wrong.

A far better allocation of resources is giving that money to Dunlap.
