I feel so bad for UCLA. To play such an amazing game and to see it end like that, tough. But hats off to the Zags for being ice cold all the way till the end. Now watch the championship game be weak, lol

Gonzaga and Baylor have been the best 2 teams in the country all year.

Cronin ished the bed for not calling a TO at the end of regulation.

What better do you want?

UCLA best player beating his man and attacking the basket.  Took a 50/50 call on the block / charge.  Right call was made on the play.

Calling timeout also allows Gonzaga to set their defense

Caling a TO also allows the coach to calm guys down and draw up a play.

Sure.  Would the play have been better than UCLA best player getting a drive to the basket?

Calling a TO allows Gonzaga to calm their players and set it's D.

Calling a TO allows Gonzaga to calm their players and set it's D.

It also allows you to draw up a play instead of just praying your best player can make a play.

Juzhang blew by 2 defenders and the only reason he didn't win the game was because a dude with 4 fouls took a charge. Whatever UCLA drew up or had in mind worked, Timme was just better in that moment.

UCLA shot 57% from the floor (which is even more impressive when you realize they were basically shooting jump shots all night long) and 47% from 3, AND out-rebounded the Zags, and still lost. They played what was damn near a perfect game, you can't really nitpick what they did IMO because in the end I don't believe there's anything they could've done better.

the last time mick cronin called a timeout to draw up a play at the end of a game it ended up with a jaquez (4 points, 1-5 shooting) contested three with 15 seconds left on the shot clock and juzang (27 points, 11-19 shooting) didn't touch the ball

don't pretend he would've had a flash of brilliance tonight

Mick Cronin is definitely a terrible coach but in that situation there's literally no downside to calling a timeout right there. And in fact by not calling a timeout Gonzaga actually got the ball with a second left and a chance to win the game.

question: how would you rather your team lose in the final four?  in blowout fashion like houston or at the buzzer in OT like UCLA? Interesting to hear answers.  I personally would rather get blown out. It's less heartbreaking lol

I'd rather lose on a buzzer beater because then you can always say "what if..."

UCLA literally hit everything, and on the rare occasion where they missed they generally got their own rebounds. It was actually insane. Gonzaga would play near perfect defense, UCLA would panic pull up a contested mid range jumper and hit it every time. I've never seen anything like it. Even freaking Riley was knocking down jumpers.

No question I'd rather lose like UCLA lost.

Gonzaga gets to set their defense during the timeout.  Allows late game scouting to be utilized.  What better play do you want than UCLA best player getting into the paint with the ball?

Calling a timeout does not ensure full use of the remaining time on the clock.
