The Triple Trade Down Mock

Recommended Posts

I believe Brad Holmes will fire most of the scouting staff right after the draft and bring in more of his team.  Because of this, this draft is about acquiring future draft capital and players with an eye for the future.  I think a lot of GMs (other than Quin) are more aggressive with trades in their first year and in this mock I have Holmes and the Lions doing the same.

Nick Easton, G: Easton signs a 2 year deal to give the Lions a cheap depth player on the inside.

2021 1st (7th overall) and 2023 3rd to Denver for 2021 1st (9th overall) and a 2022 1st

There’s a bidding war for the 4th QB on the board.  Denver gives up a future 1st to get what they think is their future QB.

2021 1st (9th overall) and Halapoulivaati Vaitai to Washington for 2021 1st (19th overall) and 3rd (82 overall) and 2022 1st.

Washington makes the move to get Mac Jones.  As part of the deal they have to take on Vaitai but Detroit is taking half his cap hit and it gives Washington a starter that can be cut next year if they need to.

2021 1st (19th overall), 2nd (41st overall) and 5th (153rd overall) to Jacksonville for 2021 1st (25th overall),  2 2nds (33 and 45) and 7th (249th overall)

Jacksonville trades up to grab the top safety in the draft; Trevon Moehrig.

25. Caleb Farley, CB Virginia Tech: The back injury causes him to slip and the Lions roll the dice on blue chip player.  If not for the injury history Farley would be the number 1 CB taken.  He will add depth and we don’t need to rush him as we develop him into a number one shut down CB.

33. Joe Tryon, EDGE Washington: This dude is explosive.  Tryon has all the tools to be an elite pass rusher.  He will start off as a situational pass rusher and will be the starter halfway through the year.  The better pass rush will help our young CBs develop as well.

45.  Wyatt Davis, OG Ohio State: Plug and play Guard.  Davis will slot into RG and we will have a strength at Oline that will help Goff thrive this year and help whoever is under center next year and beyond.

72. Amon-Ra St. Brown, WR USC: St. Brown can start day one as the Slot WR.  He adds toughness and gives us another starter that can play right away at WR, PR and KR.

82. Shaun Wade, S/NB Ohio State: Wade had a pretty average to below average year playing the boundary, but his true position should be at Safety where he can cover TEs, RBs and even the slot.  He even will add an element of pass runs as we can send him on blitzes.  There will be a bit of development and by mid season he should start at one of the S spots.

101. Alim McNeill, DT NC State: McNeill has potential as seems explosive for a man his size.  He should get in some snaps as a rotational DT with the tools to hopefully develop his pass rush skills.

112. James Wiggins, S Cincinnati: Wiggins is a versatile Safety who will make the team and has the potential to start in a year or two.  2019 ACL makes him slip.

249. Evan McPherson, K Florida: Roll the dice on a potential starter and a rookie deal.

2022 Draft Picks/Round

1st Round: 4

2nd Round: 1

3rd Round: 2 (Predicted Comp Pick added)

4th Round: 2 (Predicted Comp Pick added)

5th Round: 2 (Predicted Comp Pick added)

6th Round: 1

7th Round: 1

This mock would provide the Lions with 5-6 starters by 2022 plus enough draft capital and cap space to fill out the rest of their roster.  What do you think?  Would you be willing to take your lumps this year to be able to dominate the draft in 2022?

We move #19, #41 and #153 to move down 6 spots in the 1st, 4 spots in the 2nd and two rounds at the end and all we get is an additional 2nd rd pick? What the hell kind of exploitation does Jacksonville have on Detroit to get this deal?!?
