ArcticNorseman
Gotta admit, I love mock drafts, especially seeing who the Vikes are projected to take as well as where some of my favorite players are slated to go. For this round, I'm going all small-school players, some hidden talents, who should be able to hold their own. Since there's not really a small school guy after Trey Lance that's a sure-fire 1st rounder, I'm thinking the Vikes need to trade back, picking up a 2nd Rounder this year and a 3 or 4 next year. With their 1st pick (late 1st/early 2nd): 1. Zaven Collens, DE/OLB, Tulsa . . . Had a so-so pro-day, so I'm more intrigued than convinced. His production numbers were excellent, but my only concern would be his consistency in maintaining production at the NFL level. I'd see him as a big, strong, fast LB that gets a year behind Barr to learn Zim's scheme. 2. Ellerson Smith, DE, Northern Iowa . . . What can not this guy do? With the right coaching, his physical abilities could make him a perennial Pro-bowler. Is he as crazy as Jared Allen was coming out of Idaho St? 3. Spencer Brown, OT, Northern Iowa . . . I think his Senior Bowl performance and Pro-Day set him in motion. The only question here is, does he make it to Rd 3? 4. Robert Rochell, CB, Central Arkansas . . . Totally unknown CB with long limbs and speed. Have no idea about his nose for the ball, but he's climbing draft boards fast. 5. D'Wayne Eskridge, WR, Western Michigan . . . Steve Smith clone and I'd take that any day, all day. 6. Michael Strachan, WR, Charleston . . . 6'5", 226, 4.5 40 w/1.55 10-yrd split, 34" arms, 10" hands. Marques Colston/Kenny Galloday comparisons abound. 7. Tommy Doyle, OT, Miami (OH) . . . If this guy lasts until the latter part of Rd 5, I'll be surprised. 6' 8" 320 with 5.1 speed and 24 reps . . . can the guy play? 8. David Moore, OG, Grambling State . . . I liked the reports of he's competitiveness at the Senior Bowl. He's not all that tall, but wide with great wingspan at over 82" . . . little slow in change of direction, but maybe he's carrying a little too much extra weight? 9. Raymond Johnson, DE, Georgia Southern 10. Sam Webb, CB, Missouri Western State I could easily see Dillon Radunz as the first pick with Quinnen Meinerz fitting in the 2nd or 3rd Rd in this type of scenario. I realize it's not all that realistic to believe small school guys can measure-up to the Power 5 back-ups. Then again, the starting center for the SB Champion Bucs is from Colorado State Pueblo . . . so, if a guy has the measurables, the heart and the opportunity are all that's needed to get somewhere. Oh, yes, I'd love to see how Cade Johnson does at the NFL level, but his cohorts from SDSU really didn't get it done the past couple years at training camp. SteelKing728
I like drafts where we draft Pitt players. I'm okay with just that lol I'm not a big fan of using draft capital on K/P/Specialists anymore but I understand why some are doing that.

My philosophy is that they need to keep swinging with 6th and 7th round picks to get a long term answer at K and P. Will we miss on some? Yes. But Willie Beavers didn't do much for us either.
meixdaddy_10
So here's my completely unrealistic simulator mock for the year. I've done hundreds of them, with and without trades and this is one of my faves. I didn't do trades on this one and took mostly BPA, but knowing generally when most of these guys are picked in these simulators kind of means I'm cheating some. It does hit most of our needs, but I'd like a few extra picks for DE, S, RB and K depth/competition (Jaylon Holmes, Hercules, Brailford do nothing for me, we have nothing behind Harrison beyond this year but they can likely find UDFA for that and a 3rd RB, and Joseph is somewhat of a wild card). I cant see them going offense with the first 3 picks, but the value was there and I couldnt pass them up. Enjoy or attack it as you please! 14. Christian Darrisaw OT Virginia Tech 78. Kellen Mond QB Texas A&M 90. Landon Dickerson OC Alabama 119. Andre Cisco S Syracuse 125. Keith Taylor CB Washington 134. Monty Rice LB Georgia 143. Jaylen Twyman DT Pittsburgh 157. VikeManDan
4/20/21: From TDN's Benjamin Solak: "No second-round pick, two third-round selections, and four fourth-round picks? The Minnesota Vikings are interesting to draft for. Trading around notwithstanding, the Vikings have the capital necessary to infuse this roster with a ton of developmental youth, owning eight selections on a 90 pick stretch between Nos. 78 and 168. I went heavy on the defense there, as I don’t think head coach Mike Zimmer will stand for the poor defense his team put on the field in 2020 and will demand better play across the board. Don’t worry, fans of points! I did spend five picks on offense as well. (Three on the offensive line. Let’s run the rock, baby.)" https://thedraftnetwork.com/articles/minnesota-vikings-7-round-mock-draft-april Don't want to click link and read draft/explanations? 1.14 Alijah Vera-Tucker, iOL, USC 3.78 Dayo Odeyingo, DL, Vanderbilt 3.90 Tyree Gillespie, S, Missouri 4.119 Robert Rochell, CB, Central Arkansas 4.125 Sadarius Hutcherson, iOL, South Carolina (I strongly agree with his rationale for this selection. Hutcherson tested very well.) 4.134 Brenden Jaimes, OT, Nebraska 4.143 Frank Darby, WR, Arizona State 5.157 Daelin Hayes, EDGE, Notre Dame 5.168 Khalil Herber, RB, Virginia Tech 6.199 Ernest Jones, LB, South Carolina
NoDakViking
Trade down and a trade up. If this works, I think it can really help us shore up needs. 21. Alijah Vera-Tucker IOL, 54. Cleveland-O'Neill That's correct. I think Ezea would be more comfortable back out at Tackle and AVT and Ben Cleveland would add a lot of power to the middle. Ben Cleveland is probably more of a power scheme guy but I believe he tested pretty well athletically

Sure. I think Ben has about 40 lbs on Ezra tho. Benter than Ezra? I'll workshop it.

Ben Cleveland tested VERY well (9.63 RAS). I'd like to think our coaching/scouting staff could think that athleticism would translate to our scheme even though I'm guessing UGA was a more man/gap/power scheme. This is where coaching the players to the scheme becomes so important. I wouldn't hate St. Brown at 78 but I'd be curious what safeties may have been available. Otherwise I like double-dipping at DE. Nice job.
