The Sports Plunge Mock Draft #2

1. Jacksonville Jaguars- Trevor Lawrence (Clemson/QB)- Urban Meyer
confirmed what we have all been speculating since the Jaguars secured this
pick that Trevor was going to be the future starting quarterback for this
franchise. Lawrence is can’t miss, you could tell that from the first time he
stepped on the field for Clemson. Guy has all the tools and the intangibles to
lead the franchise to the promise land.
2. New York Jets- Zach Wilson (BYU/QB)- After watching that throw at his pro
day where he threw across his body on the run and delivered a strike down
field, you knew that Sam Darnold will not be in the Jets plans going forward.
Wilson has a slight injury history and a slight build but he has tantalizing
upside with his playmaking ability that makes him the right fit for Joe
Douglas who did not draft Darnold and will want his own guy.
3. San Francisco 49ers- Mac Jones (Alabama/QB)- This is where the draft will
take a wild turn. As this is a mock, we don’t necessarily who we think would
be the best fit but what we expect to happen. Mac is a capable quarterback
who arguably has the best mind/intangibles in the draft but out of the top
five quarterbacks his athleticism/build is the least to be desired. With
Kyle/Lynch choosing to attend Jones pro day over Fields pro day it is telling
that this is where they will go. Jones is very accurate and is excellent going
through his progressions that with a good supporting cast around him will be
a consistently producing starter but without the upside to be an upper
echelon star.
4. Atlanta Falcons- Justin Fields (Ohio State/QB)- The Falcons are not used to
being in this spot and even though Matt Ryan is still tied to this team for the
short term future and could grab the best non-QB on the board but instead
they decide to take the hometown Fields. Fields has excellent athleticism and
can be a factor both running/passing the ball. Decision-making has a lot to be
left desired but sitting behind Ryan is a perfect fit for the team/player.
5. Cincinnati Bengals- Penie Sewell- (Oregon/OT)- Joe Burrow will be
screaming and yelling to hook back up with Ja’Marr Chase from he college
days or the matchup nightmare Kyle Pitts but he will end up being thrilled
with the selection of Sewell. The Bengals have to protect their investment
and Burrow and prevent further injury so they draft the mammoth beast who
is Sewell who has everything you look for in a future all pro left tackle but
there are concerns about his technique but if that can be cleaned up he has
clearly the best upside of any tackle in the draft.
6. Miami Dolphins- Ja’Marr Chase- (LSU-WR)- After making two trades the
Dolphins have slid back to number six in an excellent move by the brass
because they seem to have decided on going forward with Tua. Kyle Pitts is

very tantalizing here but they decide to go with Chase who had an incredible
year in 2019 where he dominated the SEC en route to a national
championship with LSU. Chase is a tall/big/fast receiver who excels in every
aspect of being a top-flight receiver with the potential to be a future top 5
wide receiver in this league early in his career.

7. Detroit Lions- Devonta Smith- (Alabama/WR)- It will be tempting to take
Trey Lance here because we seem to all know Goff’s ceiling but the new GM
comes from the Rams so he may have a little more belief in Goff then all of us.
Smith was absolutely incredible last year who reminds us of Marvin Harrison
with his top of the line route running and ability to make plays both
inside/outside. Smith will step in and be the number one receiver and an
immediate contributor for Detroit.
8. Carolina Panthers- Trey Lance- (NDSU/QB)- Despite trading for Sam Darnold, Matt Rhule and company will be
running to the podium to make this selection. Despite a very small sample
size and playing against a lower level of competition, Lance has mouth
watering upside with his running/passing ability and from all accounts an
excellent mind to excel at the quarterback position. Despite being the fifth
quarterback taken, I think it is fair to say that Lance has the most upside of
any of the four quarterbacks taken before him albeit with the lowest floor.

9. Denver Broncos- Rashawn Slater- (NW/OL)- What a disappointing turn of
events for the Broncos who would love to have taken a quarterback have to
look to other needs. The Broncos have been mocked cornerbacks for as long
as the mocks have begun but with Fuller/Darby being signed they will stray
away from that and look to Slater. Pitts is so tempting again but they decide
to go with Slater despite having a very good offensive line already. Ja’Wuan
James has been non-existent for this team since signing him and with his
status in doubt they decide to take the versatile Slater who will slide in from
day one as the right tackle if James comes back but can also kick inside in the
meantime. Slater will be a mainstay for whoever the quarterback of the
future for the Broncos is.
10. Dallas Cowboys- Kyle Pitts- (UF/TE)- The Dallas Cowboys have many other
pressing needs but knowing Jerry Jones and the selection of Ce’Dee Lamb last
year the Cowboys decide to take the best player available and select Pitts.
Pitts is not your typical tight end with wide receiver skills in a tight end
frame that is arguably the best pass catcher in the draft. After the investment
in Prescott this offseason, they decide to give him as many weapons as
possible and adding to Pitts to the mix will on paper give the Cowboys the
best set of skill position players in the league. Taking him away from the G
Men is sweet as well.

11. New York Giants- Micah Parsons- (PSU/LB)- Parsons is an animal and will
thrive in Patrick Grahams defense. This guy is a class player on and off the
field and has GMEN written all over him. The Giants have been making
splashes during free agency at the skill positions and need a linebacker .
Parsons has a chance to contend as DROY.
12. Philadelphia Eagles- Jaylen Waddle- (Alabama/WR)- This should come as a
no brainer. The Eagles are in desperate need of a WR to help Jalen Hurts.
Waddle has the speed to transition well at the next level and can be plugged
all over the field. Eagles make a great move to trade down to land the guy the
wanted the whole time.
13. LA Chargers- Christian Darrisaw- (VT/OL)- Darrisaw is the pick here and will
immediately step in to help protect the future of the Chargers. Darrisaw had
a great career at Virginia Tech where he constantly got better every year.
14. Minnesota Vikings- Gregory Rousseau- (Miami/Edge)- Rousseau opted out of
the 2020 season to protect himself and focus on working out for the NFL.
This guy has the potential to be a top 10 defensive lineman in this league as
the Vikings are looking to get back to their bread and butter of a strong
defensive front.
15. New England Patriots- Kwity Paye- (Michigan/DL)- The Patriots wait to take
their QB of the future and instead focus on an immediate need of a pass
rusher. Paye is a freakish athlete with incredible explosiveness. This is the
kind of player that Belicheck loves to mold into a star.
16. Arizona Cardinals- Patrick Surtain II- (Alabama/CB)- This is a no brainer for
the Cardinals who are in desperate need for secondary help. Surtain has the
pedigree, size and ball hawking skills to be a shutdown corner in this league.
17. Las Vegas Raiders- Jason Oweh- (PSU/Edge)- The Raiders were one of the
worst teams in rushing the QB and stopping the run last year. Oweh has the
size and the skillset to either line-up with his hand in the dirt or be a pass
rushing OLB. The Raider are gushing that they landed this type of talent on
their team.
18. Miami Dolphins- Alijah Vera-Tucker- (USC/OL)- After Miami took a skill
player with their first pick, they look now to protect their future QB. Miami
took a lot of sacks last year and teams blitzed the hell out of Tua. Locking up a
guy like Vera Tucker, who can play the guard or tackle position, is a no
brainer for the Fin’s here.
19. Washington Football Team- Caleb Farley- (VT/CB)- Ron Rivera loves to take
elite defensive players in the draft. Farley is arguably the best CB in this draft class with his size and ball hawking capabilities. Pairing him with an elite
defensive front will make this team very tough to contend with in the 2021
season.
20. Chicago Bears- Jaycee Horn- (South Carolina/ CB)- The Bears are fuming that
the top QB’s are off the board. They take their next biggest need at CB. With
Fuller leaving the team to free agency, the Bears have a void to fill. Horn is a
dominant corner who is physical, has great size and playmaking instincts.
21. Indianapolis Colts- Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah- (ND/OLB)- The Colts could
opt to go offensive line, but there is no doubt that they need some help on the
edge. Koramoah is a linebacker who is built for today’s game. He has range in
pass coverage and is capable of rushing the QB as well. He is the versatile
player that the Colts need defensively to help take them to the next level.
22. Tennessee Titans- Kadarius Toney- (UF/WR) – Tennessee saw a few
important pass catchers walk this offseason, and while the signing of Josh
Reynolds helps, adding Toney here would do wonders to complement AJ
Brown and Derrick Henry for the Tennessee attack. Toney is an electric
playmaker with strength and burst ideally suited for the slot position, fitting
nicely with Brown/Reynolds outside and Toney working inside.
23. New York Jets- Jaelen Phillips – (Miami/DE) – New HC Saleh bangs the table
for Phillips at this spot, and the Jets take a chance here. Early years were
marred by injuries, and Phillips sat out the entire 2019 season to get healthy.
Enter the shortened 2020 season and Phillips took the nation by storm – over
the final 4 games he finished with 11 TFLs and 6.5 sacks. If you just look at
2020 tape, you could make the argument that Phillips is the best DE in this
class. #23 seems like a good spot where the risk-reward makes sense, Gang
Green goes for it here.
24. Pittsburgh Steelers – Azeez Ojulari (Georgia/EDGE) – Bud Dupree and Tyson
Alualu leave equals a couple key holes and question marks for the Steelers
defense into the 2021 season. They try to tackle the Dupree loss here with
Ojulari. Voted as a captain as a freshman underscores top-notch intangibles,
with versatility to run around you and be stout at the point of attack.
25. Jacksonville Jaguars – Trevon Moehrig (TCU/S) – Homerun scenario for the
Jags in my book. This is Moehrig’s floor, and he could go much higher. Team
captain that can do it all from the middle of the field – sideline to sideline
range, fast enough, and a strong tackler. What excites me the most here is his
instincts. Star potential here, in my view, and a sure-fire first round pick.
26. Cleveland Browns – Greg Newsome II (NW/CB) – Tall, rangy corner with
agility to hang with the best of them, the Browns grab Newsome here and tell
Greedy Williams to take your time getting 100% healthy. Sub-4.4 40-time and a 40-inch vertical places Newsome near the top of the CB class for
athleticism, nice fit here.
27. Baltimore Ravens – Zaven Collins (Tulsa/OLB) – Super interesting player
here, with a ton of versatility – tools to play all over the yard, from off-ball
linebacker to coverage to edge rusher, this is the kind of multiple player
that’s highly sought after in today’s best defenses that value the art of
disguise. Baltimore lost a few key defensive stars, specifically relevant to this
projection is Yannick Ngauoke, and the pressure will be on Collins to make
the leap from the lesser-known Tulsa gridiron program to the NFL.
28. New Orleans Saints – Levi Onwuzurike (Washington/DT) – The Saints
experienced a blood bath of talent departing, naming a few on the defensive
side – Sheldon Rankins, Kwon Alexander, and Malcom Brown. Onwuzurike is
a starting point to replacing some of the talent lost, with a super explosive
first move and phenomenal effort in general. Nice grab for the Saints here to
ensure their defense is stacked from the trenches out.
29. Green Bay Packers – Teven Jenkins (Oklahoma State/OT) – With a few teams
above them set on the OL, the Pack could find a nice talent like Jenkins fall
right into their lap at #29. Jenkins is a powerful tackle with the kind of
strength, quickness, and (most importantly!) nasty attitude that OL coaches
crave. With Corey Linsley and Rick Wagner departing for the 2021 season,
long-term OL solutions are a must, and the Pack make their selection here.
30. Buffalo Bills – Joseph Ossai (Texas/EDGE) – The Longhorn edge rusher had
the kind of pro day that makes everybody go back to the tape. It’s up-and-
down, but if he gets more consistent, you’re looking at a Khalil Mack type
talent. A blue-collar type player with a ton of hustle, his frame is developing
and will need to add a bit more bulk, but he’s got enough talent to contribute
right now. This pick might surprise some, but the upside is too tantalizing
and Ossai sneaks into the first round here.
31. Kansas City Chiefs – Jalen Mayfield (Michigan/OT) – The Chiefs have an
absurd amount of talent on offense, but they need to invest in protecting the
best QB in the league. Mahomes gets his wish here with Mayfield here – very
consistent player without a “wow” factor but simply gets the job done – nice
fit for what KC is looking for.
32. Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Travis Etienne (Clemson/RB) – Speed kills. The
Bucs have an interesting RB room, Ronald Jones finally showing signs of life,
Lenny Fournette as the bruiser, but the team grabs Etienne here to bring the
RB room up a new level. Elite top-line speed and balance is the name of the
game, Etienne gives the reigning Super Bowl champs a new toy to play with.

For the Falcons this would be bad to me after restructuring Ryan and destroying our cap space for the next 2 to 3 years.  Moving on from him in the next year or 2 is 40 mil in dead cap space and we can't afford to do that and not have him on the team.  Plus he is still a top 5-7 QB in this league with MVP upside in the right scheme.  Theirs no reason to get his replacement yet when all your gonna do is eat up the years on that young QB's contract for 3 years or so and only have 1 year to see what he can do before you have to pay a fortune to keep him if you think he did good.  Once again destroying your cap space for the foreseeable future.

Trade down or Pitts is the best option for the Falcons in any draft and if we do anything but that i would think our front office has failed us.  If you legit planned on taking a QB at 4 then restructuring Ryan for the 4th time was the most idiotic and ignorant thing our GM could have done as you then screwed the team over cap wise for the young QB so you can't even build around him.

Ojulari  is not a 3-4 OLB.  He gets eaten alive when he goes up against good tackles.  Watch the Bama game.  Leatherwood erases him and I think Leatherwood will be a RT in the NFL.  Ojulari  will be a better 9 tech or 4-3 OLB.  He is an off-ball LB.

Wut? He’s 100% a great fit as a 3-4 OLB. Also, despite his size, he’s actually effective against the run when he’s not playing against a TE.

I was ok with your picks, but this format hurt my brain.

Watch the Bama game.  Erased.  Any game he went up against a decent tackle he was erased.

Lol he played fine in the Bama game. They rarely ever ran his way. He was great at squeezing down the back side gaps and setting a hard edge to prevent the RB from getting outside. I don’t even love Ojulari, but he’s not Barkevious Mingo levels of suck against the run.

Ojulari definitely had some nice splash plays against Bama and like you said he did a nice job squeezing down on the OG, but there were a few times when he was at the point of attack and he got washed out.  Overall he played well IMO and he could be a 3-4 OLB or a 4-3 OLB.  To be successful as a 3-4 he will need to develop some counter moves but that's typical of nearly every College Edge Rusher.
