This one bothers me too. Tough I liked it at the time .

Chris Olive career 94 / 1344

Jahan Dotson career 45 / 606

Olave is the better prospect. We knew that. You had to decide if you wanted Olave or Dotson + Howell + Robinson.

I was hoping he was only a little better- not twice as good ! We are so smart to keep passing the elite guys for pretty good ones.

Jahan missed 5 games last year with a hamstring injury & our passing game hasn’t been on track this year with the young and inexperienced Howell.

I would also add that by trading down we not only got Dotson but we got Brian Robinson our starting RB, Sam Howell who at worst will be our #2 QB in the future and Cole Turner who looks like he’s a good enough receiving TE to be our #1 TE.

Last year Olave was only a little better than Dotson when you break it all down & factor in that Dotson missed 5 games w/ his hamstring injury. Also in your post why do you conveniently leave out that Dotson had 7 TDs last year to Olave’s 4? The goal of football on offense is score TDs & Dotson did that better despite playing less games than Olave.

Not intentional. Just an oversight. Thanks for pointing it out !

I don't recall what our natural picks were that year? I know we didn't have a third but I wonder if we could've selected Olave and still wound up with all the guys we picked? Obviously you never know but I wonder where Robinson goes if we don't pick him in the third? Honestly, even knowing what I know now I probably still would've picked Olave but that's just me. You still could've picked Howell.

Like, before the draft commenced?

1.11, 2.47, 4.113, 6.189, 7.230, 7.240

So theoretically they could've selected Robinson and Howell a round early and potentially lost out on Turner. I think I would trade Dotson+Turner for Olave, no?

This won't change your answer, but technically it would be Dotson+Turner+Mathis.

Shoot I missed Mathis. Good catch but yes, I think I would’ve just stuck with Olave. But it’s not a shot at Dotson I just think Olave is outrageously good.

Well as you kind of alluded to, it's not something you can answer. We don't know if BRob would've been available 15 spots later.

We got the two 5th rnd picks (Howell & Cole Turner) by trading down with the Saints 4th rnd pick we got in the Olave trade. We can't answer if Howell would’ve been there in the 6th round with our original pick. I'd say likely not.

I was fine either way. I definitely had Olave as my #1 WR in the draft but he does have a weakness and that's in the red zone. Olave is not a receiver who does well in the red zone - he needs more space to operate - where surprisingly for his size Jahan Dotson is great at high pointing balls & he's great at using his quickness in the red zone to create space as well.

Does anyone have buyer's remorse on Forbes? I kinda do. I wanted Christian Gonzalez if we were picking a DB (but not sure about where we picked Forbes).

Here's what Gonzalez has done the past 3 weeks.

He's covered:

  • AJ Brown
  • Tyreek Hill
  • Jaylen Waddle
  • Garrett Wilson

And has given up only 36 yards passing.

Meanwhile Forbes has given up 125 yards (only 11 corners have given up more).

I get that it can take some time to adjust, but it looks like Gonzalez is better coming out of the gate. Especially given who he has lined up against.

This has been a hot topic this week bc Gonzalez has been playing well. It's very early in their careers but I guess so far yes 🤷🏼‍♂️

We drafted Forbes because of his playmaking ability though, Rivera/JDR knew they had solid cover CBs in Fuller & Juice but they didn't cause many ints. The idea behind drafting Forbes despite his weight was he would catch those possible ints our CBs have missed the past 3 years and maybe even turn one every once in a while almost into or into a pick 6 as he has in college. So far in 3 games Foebes has 1 int, and almost had 3 I think, definitely almost had 2.

I still think if we had drafted Gonzalez - just like with Forbes - he'd be our #3 behind Fuller & Juice and playing in the slot.

I really had hoped that if the Steelers hadn't traded up in front of us with the Steelers that we would’ve taken Broderick Jones in the 1st to compete with the other OL to be a starter at one of the OG or OT spots, but with the Steelers feeling we’d take B.Jones, they traded up with that Patriots to take B.Jones before we could have.

I always felt CB was a need, but not a first-round need, not that I wouldn't have taken one if BPA but, I felt we needed a slot guy which can be found after round 1 and I was hoping they'd go OL in R1 but there was a run on those OL before we picked.

What I was hoping we'd be able to do is take Broderick Jones or Peter Skoronski in R1 and then come back in R2 and take the slot CB which the Bengals took from Michigan, DJ Turner.

If we had been able to do that then Juice would have stayed on the outside all game & DJ Turner would be our slot CB.

But that went out the window when the Steelers traded infront of us.

I completely understand. And like I said, I'm not completely having Buyers Remorse. It is WAY early for both players and Forbes is playing fine for what snaps he's getting and the fact that he's a rookie. I just see Gonzalez going up against elite receivers and great offenses and doing well. I just want to see Forbes hang onto the danged ball when it hits his hands. He owes us like 3 more INT by now (not an official count, I haven't actually looked at all the plays again from Week 1- Week 3).

But maybe this is me unreasonably whining.
