ACO
I had a feeling. Nothing else to prove. What a way to end your career. You did it. Wish him all the best.
JiffyJag
Wild career, and one hell of a comeback. I know he’s said he doesn’t want to get into coaching but I hope he changes his mind down the line.

MOSteelers56
Good way to go out, all things considered. I hope his retirement is fruitful.
goldfishwars
Right move, but man he turned around a bust career into a very good one when that's nearly always impossible to do. Kudos to the dude, hope he can rest up easy.
BayRaider
The fact that he played at all again was pretty amazing. I was really hoping he'd play in the playoffs and make a Super Bowl run, they had the defense to do it. He had a solid career. Started off terrible his first three seasons, and pretty below average the three following that. However, the Niners stuck with him, and a lot of that is coaching. The Niners coaching staff from 2005-2010 was laughably pathetic. Singletary is easily one of the worst HC's to ever grace a football field, great player though. Alex Smith from 2011-2012 on the Niners was great. He also was very very solid his 5 years in Kansas City. He also led Washington to a 6-2 record before getting injured his first year starting for them. His numbers weren't great, but wherever the guy went, he won. He won't be a Hall of Famer, but he'll go down as a very solid QB.
NVRamsFan
Time to rename the comeback player award.
Tk3
bets on which poster starts the "Alex Smith HoF??" thread /s really though, have to respect the career he had. To take his very subpar career in SF and turn that into a legitimately great tenure with the Chiefs. He really revived that franchise that fell apart after the Green/Holmes/Johnson era ended. AZ_Eaglesfan
Good. He needed to retire. Glad he ended on a high note.
RuskieTitan
Remarkable comeback, and truly wish him the best in the future. Being a 3-time pro bowler, and more recently Comeback Player of the Year, does the hype surrounding his comeback help propel him into the Hall of Fame? Uncle Buck
Congratulations to Alex Smith on a career that showcased his impressive ability to overcome many different obstacles. Here's hoping he enjoys life after playing football and has a lot of success in the future.
Ty21
It was distressing when he came back after coming so close to a worst case scenario with his injury so it’s nice to see him leave while he’s ahead. Very cool he was able to make the recovery he did though.

My favorite moment with Alex was when he won the playoff game against NO.. that drive..
RamblinMan99
By the standards of #1 overall draft picks, he was a bust. But, I give him a lot of credit for staying in the NFL as long as he did. For a lot of QBs that were in his perspective, they’ll have 2-3 years in the league tops and that’s it. But, Alex Smith proved himself worthy.
