So what Cook and all the other players in the same boat should do - is announce their intention to change numbers next year - and tell fans to boycott buying any of the soon-to-be-outdated jerseys. That way the NFL and their lame-*** partners get stuck with millions in un-purchased jerseys.

"Dear NFL, you wanna eff around and be jerks ? Fine. But the fans and players can play this jerk game too."

Such a stupid and greedy rule.

Is it greedy? Like any business, especially when partnering with vendors, these companies budget based on expected sales. The NFL can't just say, yup change your numbers, and leave Nike and all those retailers in the lurch. That wouldnt be ethical in a business sense.

Then let NFL pay for a good chunk of it instead of footing the entire bill on the players. Only a small chunk of the players make 7 figures. I’m sure they can come up with some sort of compromise?

Of those players who don't make enough to afford it, how many actually have jersey's printed? Changing your number is beyond a luxury. Why does there need to be a compromise?

what? why is this greedy?

Why would anyone other than the player have to foot the bill if the player (against known, rational rules) decides to change their number in the offseason and effectively scrap a ton of inventory?

It should 100% be on the player if the player makes that decision.

Why would the NFL have to pay a penny towards it? It’s the player who wants to make a change that the NFL isn’t getting a benefit from financially.

It’s kinda a mute point anyways as most NFL players make less than 7 figures. Which is needed to buy out most jerseys. I’m looking to see if NBA and other sports have similar rules.

It's really not greedy. You are basically screwing up a bunch of finances for the year in the name of getting to wear a number you like better. The NFL doesn't want to pay for that

It is definitely gonna to make reading the play a lot harder for QBs. Like you said, what package they are in, what personnel they have on the field, etc. It's going to be harder calling out protections in the traditional fashion. I disagree with Brady on one front though, it won't be bad football, its just a change that will make QB play more difficult pre-snap. One of the few defensively skewed rule changes.

Yup. For a QB who is already trying to process information in a couple seconds while being rushed to make a decision, removing an identifier like that is going to have an effect. For more cerebral QB's who make their bread and butter at the line of scrimage it is going to matter.

It is going to affect play calling from the sidelines as well. It will be a lot harder to identify the packages the other team is in both on D and O.

Yes. And alot of people are going to say "well college does numbers a similar way". But college isn't nearly as optimized as the NFL. Especially at the levels where these factors become important. Most college games are just matches of attrition with the better athletes always winning. That isn't true in the NFL. It's far more scheme and match based.
