I try to avoid extremes here when it comes to Rodgers (or any other player for that matter) "having a say." One extreme is to suggest that Rodgers gets to make roster decisions relative to cuts, player acquisitions, etc. The other extreme is to suggest Rodgers should never be allowed to express his opinion to the Head Coach/Front Office on these roster decisions.  So while we don't know for certain what happened behind closed doors, if Rodgers attempted to speak directly to Gute about his opinions on roster decisions and was ignored by Gute or told "nunya business", then that is terrible player relations on Gute's part. On the other hand, if Gute did/does welcome and receive Rodgers input on roster decisions but just dedides to go a different direction, then Rodgers just has to accept that since it's his job/responsibility to play football, not set the roster.

I’m fine with him voicing his opinions when it comes to roster decisions. But why does he have to take his ball and go home when they pat him on the head and say maybe next time.

I agree. He can't 'expect' the Front Office to go with any of his recommendations and shouldn't make a fuss if they don't. On the other hand, as I said, I also don't think it is unreasonable for Rodgers (or any other player) to expect that the Front Office would at least give an ear to some of his recommendations and consider them. If Rodgers tried but Gutekunst refused to even give him an ear, then I can understand why Rodgers wouldn't want to come back. Like I said, it's the extremes that are the problem to me. But none of us knows what the case actually was/is.  For example, did Rodgers actually speak to Gutekunst privately about keeping Kumerow, or did he merely tweet about it and expect Gutekunst to read it in time and comply? None of us knows. Only they do.

I don't think it has to do with money, and I think it has very little to do with personnel decisions.

I think  he thinks he's done a lot for Green Bay and deserves to stay past 2021.   If you are going to trade me, trade me now.

I think the personnel decision stuff is BS, the fire the GM or Murphy stuff is BS.

He thinks he deserves to stay past 2021 and finish out his contract.

You can argue for whatever side you'd like, but it really comes down to has he done enough to finish out his contract or is the Love transition including Rodgers future cap hit relief too far along to turn back now.

This makes a ton of sense, but he played like a player in decline from 2017-2019 at least. Might be able to go back further than that too.

The Packers made a decision to protect themselves if he continued to decline. He got butt hurt. You know how he gets to finish out his contract with Green Bay? Play like 2020 not 2017-19.

The idea he is entitled to finish his contract as a starter, nobody is in the NFL. BTW, I do think you are correct in your assessment.

There are 2 main options for Rodgers staying past 2021:

1. Love sucks or gets seriously hurt this year.

2.  Play so well they rethink their plans.  (Probably needs a Super Bowl for that)

Bill Huber / SI -  Las Vegas sportsbooks are preparing for Aaron Rodgers to retire and not return to the Green Bay Packers.

Because of the importance of the reigning NFL MVP, Westgate SuperBook recently closed all its NFC North markets, including projected wins, playoff odds, divisional odds and weekly lines for the four division teams, one oddsmaker at the sportsbook said via a Twitter direct message.

Two other sportsbooks contacted after that initial message said the expectation is Rodgers is going to announce his retirement sometime before the first practice on Wednesday. In response, one of those sportsbooks pushed out its prices on the Packers to win the NFC North and shortened the odds for the other teams. It also shortened the odds of Patrick Mahomes winning NFL MVP.

I think this is a precaution until there is some resolution. I don't know the rules of retirement. Meaning, if he turns in his retirement papers when could he rescind them?

I also think the Packers could go after some of his bonus money as well as his roster bonus.

Part of me hopes Rodgers retires so he would always be the ***** that cried away his legacy.

Like… Aaron Rodgers pulling a Tom Brady on contracts and playing in New England?  You’re looking at a minimum of 10 Super Bowl wins.

What an absolute *****.  I would be the most vindicated poster in FF history if Rodgers was to retire this year.

Don't know how much to put into this retirement report, but Rodgers agent David Dunn played the "retirement game" with Carson Palmer in Cincinnati, and got him out of there.  Stay tuned.

I mean if he wants to destroy his legacy in Green Bay to the point where he's labeled as a quitter and may not even be able to walk back into Lambeau to retire his number down the road without a negative reaction from fans...yea I guess go ahead and retire 12.

Personally I think this "retirement" report is just a counter-punch by the Rodgers camp after the Packers undoubtedly pushed that report through Schefty earlier this week about the rejected extension. Just a little more tug-of-war here in the days leading up to camp.
