Packers QB Aaron Rodgers disgruntled; "Does not want to return to team"

This. Aaron Rodgers has kept GB in the top 10 for over a decade while TB has been in and out of the bottom 5 in that same time frame adding talent through the draft and spending money outside of QB while there was no Aaron Rodgers type cash on the books. This TB team was already assembled BEFORE Brady got there.

Yes, that was kind of my point.

that Jordan Love pick was stupid, no sense in not adding as much help as possible when your window is so wide open. If Rodgers stays, id say he has a minimum 3 years of high level play left. So what, you'd have to use a 5th year option on a guy who hasn't played? Didn't make any sense then and doesn't make any sense now, unless, they do trade Aaron.

And at the very least given him a phone call about what their plans are. Being blindsided by something like that when you are one of the best in the world at what you do? Yeeeesh!

Same thing was said about the Rodgers' pick.  Not saying Jordan Love will turn out to be as good as Rodgers, but how quickly people forget that Rodgers looked incredibly mortal the previous 2 seasons.

Why?  I'm not sure the Packers went into the draft expecting to take a QB.  If I had to guess, they had a reasonably high draft grade on Jordan Love (probably top 10ish), and when he got into a range that the Packers didn't think would hurt their present day success they made that jump.  They gave up their 4th round pick, not a Day 2 pick.  And it was a late 4th round pick at that.

Tom Brady's Salary cap in 2020 and 2021:

2020: $28,375,000

2021: $10, 545,588

Total: $38,920,588

Aaron Rodger's Salary Cap in just 2021:

$37,202,000

I don't care what the Bucs are doing, if he wants us to put weapons around him like TB is doing for Tom, tell him to follow suit with Tom and play for less money. Simple as that.

This is not a remotely appropriate comparison, though. Brady isn't making $10.5M this year. That's just his cap hit because they added void years to go all in this season. Brady is getting paid $42.5M this year. But since they added void years, and converted salary and roster bonuses to signing bonuses, the Bucs take $8M of the cap hit next year, and $24M of the cap hit in 2023 when Brady's contract expires. Originally, Brady's cap hit was going to be around $30M this year, just like last year ($25M plus incentives, basically.) They moved a bunch of that around, but Brady did not take less money through any of that movement. Prior to that movement, both Brady and Rodgers would've made around $60M against the cap between the 2020 and 2021 seasons. Last year, Rodgers was actually cheaper against the cap than Brady. Brady didn't demand the most money ever, or anything, but in the end, he's going to have made $80M+ incentives on a 3 year deal with Tampa. That's on par with what Rodgers has been making in the same timespan. Tampa is just far more willing to go all in from a cap perspective and take on dead money down the road, versus Green Bay, who has clearly expressed more interest in the future after their current QB is gone.

Well, if the GM keeps saying they're committed to Rodgers, he is effectively admitting that the Love pick was a wasted pick (which it was).

Stuff like get GMs fired.

The Love pick was a mistake but my God get over it.  If you think it costs you potential pieces to win a SB yet demand a trade to teams that are much worse than GB just makes him look like emotional hypocrite.

They're committed to Rodgers in 2021.  But beyond that, it's up for debate.  It was largely assumed that after the 2021 season, the Packers would move on from Aaron Rodgers and turn to Jordan Love.

Most great QBs decline after age 38, at latest. Brees and Brady have been the only two that were consistently good a few years after that. So I think it’s pretty reasonable to know the real risk of investing into an older QB that’s reaching that age...especially one that gets nicked up a lot. And Rodgers didn’t look very good a few years ago...he looked like he could have been declining.
