Gotta say, I LOVE the idea of adding another TE and going two TE, two RBs, with aiyuk and Lance on the field all at the same time. We could really pound the rock while still having enough pass catchers to sling the ball around.

Oh, it's coming. The wing heavy personnel stuff NDSU did had to be like Shanahan porn. Exactly the reason I think Tremble is almost certainly coming on board to provide that option and be first off the bench when Juice or Kittle goes down. Plus, Tremble has some physical ceiling as a pass receiver and can big slot a little.

Unbelievable, initially Maiocco mentioned Fields and didn't even bring up Lance. He then thought it would be Jones after Simms tweet and probably talking to him and others...Then he changed his entire narrative and made it seem like Shanny just wanted a physically limited QB who will listen to and do everything Shanahan will want him to do....These guys didn't even believe half the crap they were saying but the intel told them Jones so they had to find reasons for why the pick was going to be him.

He legit mention Lance one time on a podcast in like January on a direct question asked well before we traded up to 3 LOL. I don't know how he is going to say his preference was Lance. And even on that podcast, he wasn't answering regarding his preference, but rather who he thought Shanny would prefer.

Nobody comes out of this looking worse than MM imo. Basically 4+ weeks of Mac coverage on his podcast.

Pat Freiermuth and Tommy Tremble are made for our offense. Tremble is so much like Kittle it's kind of scary. Feiermuth is more in the Hunter Henry mold, but equally appealing for our offense.

My sleeper for tonight: Hunter Long, TE from BC.

My sleeper for tomorrow: Tre McKitty, TE from Georgia.

My deep sleeper for tomorrow or UDFA Sunday: Nick Eubanks, TE from Michigan

There is no trap so deadly as the trap you set for yourself.

Like I told you guys all along, the pick was always Trey Lance.

Yep. Just like I said when we first made the trade..."I think it's Lance".

Boom, here we are 5 weeks later without any deviation...just a straight shot road from point a to b...yep yep yep.

My takeaways from this strange process:

1) Only late leaks seem to matter with the 49ers, and only some of the time. McGlinchey got leaked in the days leading up to the draft, and somehow the betting markets (and to a certain extent the press) zeroed in on Lance in the days leading up to the draft. Other picks, however, have come real surprises (e.g. Thomas and Aiyuk). The front office seems to do a genuinely good job of smokescreening and did a good job this year, given all the focus that got put on the organization in this cycle. The leaking thing really concerned me (I remember hating all the leaks under Baalke), and I'm happy to come away feeling like it's really not an issue.

2) The NFL clearly didn't like Justin Fields as much as the fans (including me) and media. This is the point where the professionals believe as a group that there is something to a prospect that makes him less of a prospect than his on-field performance would indicate. Fields was great at Ohio State; there's not much debating that. But a bunch of QB-needy teams passed him up, and the one that finally moved on him was the Bears, who are clearly cursed. I don't know exactly what the league's problem is with evaluating Fields, but my guess is that it has a lot to do with how long he held the ball in college, his struggles in the short game, and the difficulty of projecting that sort of a quarterback into NFL offenses. I don't believe any of the stuff about Field's attitude and/or work ethic, and he seems to be plenty smart, but it may be that teams simply couldn't project his "processing speed" from the tape, and that this is such an important trait that not knowing pushed him down somewhat. We shall see. I wish Fields well, but I also despise the Bears, so I'm hoping for a Ryan Tannehill-type trajectory to his career. Stupid Bears.

3) Opposite of this for Trey Lance. What did the NFL see that we could not? Best guess: 1) any mechanical improvement he's made in the last year or so; 2) elite grey matter. Lance has been called a "football savant", and that matters a lot, but indicators of his aptitude were almost invisible to us this year due to circumstances. We heard about it, but could not see it the way NFL teams could when they talked to him. It is also possible that his mechanics/accuracy have cleaned up in the past year, and that watching him in person was the price of admission for this information. We'll never know what other teams thought of Lance, but at this point, I tend to believe that one or both of Atlanta/Denver probably coveted him. Both clearly did not feel that way about Fields. We'll get front row seats to Lance's development, so I guess we'll find out what the 49ers see in him that we maybe do not.

4) I'm just really happy we didn't draft Mac Jones. I still have some work to do in therapy to get the image of his repulsive torso out of my mind. Jones going to the Patriots is perfect; now I can enjoy hating him forever. Salut, Mac Jones. I hope you land on your ******* face.

Never even heard all these quarterbacks' names until this thread, so I'm very indifferent to the pick.  When I see Lance on the field, I'll have more to say, I guess.  The tape I've seen so far looks good, though.  Just gotta trust Kyle knowing he's putting it all on the line.  The capital we gave up for this pick puts a lot of eyes on him.

All the stuff, pre-draft, about who picked who, mock drafts, controversies, etc.. crack me up.  We live in a social media world now.  They live and die by reactions and comments.  Safe picks don't generate any of that.  Of course they're going to stir things up.  Look at all the conversation that was generated by the Jones hype.  Gotta take it all with a grain of salt.

Glad the 1st round is over with.  The circus was a bit much for something no one but the team had any control over.  Looking forward to see which positions we pick up the rest of the draft.

See, that's what I was even wondering because I caught most of his podcasts since the trade and he was ALL in on Jones. Don't give me no crap about "preferring" Lance when that never happened. He, like Simms and Florio just can't admit they were wrong from the beginning. If Shanahan/Lynch weren't even telling coaches on the staff, that should have made them waver a bit about their sources and they should have kept a open mind.

McShay FINALLY caved and went Lance on the day of the draft but he was consistent all along saying he would go Lance and something was off here.

MM, because of his past deserves a bit of a pass but he's officially on the clock with me lol.

Lance's ceiling makes trading three 1sts absolutely worth it! Certainly a risk but the upside is there to make us consistent Super Bowl contenders for years to come.

I absolutely appreciate being a fan of a well run organization. I underestimated Lynch and Shanahan and I apologize to both of them for that.

Even if Lance is a total bust I'll defend this move for eternity.

I agree, the one other thing that we see is they do make mistakes but they seem to learn from them. Usually that isn't the case. I'm proud of Kyle and John.
