HEIGHT: 6'0 3/8"

WEIGHT: 190

POSITIVES

— Above-average size and very good length for the WR position. Has the route-running ability to be a true “X” WR, but he also has the skill set and movement ability to move into the slot on concepts.

— Very good route runner and consistently displays refined footwork. No wasted steps and does not look robotic on his releases or routes. Has shown the ability to run a full route tree from outside and the slot. Consistently able to produce on routes at all three levels and shows the patience and body control to be a threat on double-moves.

— Very good body control and balance. Always looks fluid and doesn’t get moved easily off of his path. Consistently playing under control while maintaining a good clock in his head for the timing of a route.

— Good hands and able to adjust to poorly thrown balls. Displays good hand-eye coordination even on balls that were tipped. Very good catching range, is comfortable with reaching out and snatching throws over the middle. Able to properly adjust for deep throws over his shoulder and can also consistently come down with the spectacular catch.

— Wins consistently vs. press with his strength, balance and footwork. Patient with his release and knows how to get a CB to lean before swiping by. Shows more advanced releases than a typical college WR.

— Not a blazer but has plenty of long-speed to score on the yards after the catch. Able to pull away from defenders at the top of his vertical routes. Combined with his good ball tracking ability, this allows him to be productive on deep passes.

NEGATIVES

— Had drops crop up with throws at his body in 2020.

— Just OK with the ball in his hands. Isn’t going to juke or make a lot of defenders miss because of average lateral quickness.

2020 STATISTICS

5 G, 36 rec., 472 yards, 13.1 avg., 2 TD

NOTES

— 2019 Big Ten WR of the Year

OVERALL:

Rashod Bateman brings length and an advanced skill set at the WR position that easily translates to the NFL. Bateman lined up on the outside for Minnesota, where he was tremendously productive but also asked to align in the slot during his junior season, in which he continued to display his route-running savvy. Bateman is already very good on his releases and overall route tree, consistently beating press with good foot quickness and varied hand usage and showing tight footwork on his route tops. He shows good, reliable hands and catching range, and is comfortable extending away from his body over the middle or high-pointing throws. His very good body control shows up when adjusting for throws and also through contact on his routes.

He’s a good overall athlete who has shown that he has the long-speed to pull away from defenders on deep routes and with the ball in his hands, but he doesn’t have true game-breaking speed and lacks the lateral quickness and ability to make a ton of defenders miss, instead preferring to immediately get north.

Bateman has a high floor and can contribute to any offense on Day 1. He also has the high ceiling of being a top-tier X-WR in the NFL, with the ability to also line up in the slot for whichever play-caller wants to highlight him.

GRADE: 8.65/10 (Immediate impact NFL starter, 1st round)

OVERALL RANK: 9/300

POSITION RANK: WR2

PRO COMPARISON: Reggie Wayne

Pretty much every data point available on Bateman has been posted already, as have multiple videos. Just search "Rashod Bateman" in our forum and I'll sure you'll find most of them. We've obviously been pretty high on him throughout the process and filled multiple threads with praise/analysis of him and his play. This video though is well worth the watch as a final reminder about the caliber of player we're getting. Highly recommend giving it a watch-

This was very impressive selection! I really didn’t think we would make it honestly. Just from the past and routes we chose. I was ecstatic! Bateman fits what we lack outside. Someone who can beat the press and comes with no routes he can’t run.

Now let’s utilize him, Brown, Duvernay & Watkins

Biased Gopher fan here- but this was a great pick. Bateman has the potential (keyword potential not guarantee) to be by far the best receiver in this draft class. The guy just has the “it” factor when you watch him play a full game. I’m happy to see him go to a team where he can make an immediate impact and not get buried on the depth chart. Looking forward to seeing what you do with him!

He may not have the eye popping numbers in year one just because this team isn't going to throw the ball 650 times, even with a large increase in passing, but he does provide exactly what they need, IMO. A guy like DJ Moore who can threaten the intermediate part of the field and just make plays.
