I think that as well. If it's somehow Moehrig then A+, but he's likely off the board within a few selections tonight so we'll settle for another lesser talent.

Holland > Moehrig imo

Grant seems pretty obvious. Older high floor, safe pick. There is nowhere else they go that FS imo. They draft need above talent and it won't change in round 2.

Here’s the thing: me and you both agree about the whole you have to take a defensive star if he’s there so you know I’m with you on that

terms of athleticism Alex leatherwood is one of if not the most athletic offensive and tackle in the draft. He also had a really good measure both as well so there’s that. With this pic it comes down to can cable get him right. If he can he has talent. My only issue is I don’t wanna hear anything about he’s not ready to start yet.

There is no doubt that Leatherwood has talent but what bothers me are a few things.  Our front office lacks direction, we create holes during the offseason and patch the holes in the draft regardless of BPA.  There is a chance that AL was the BPA of our board but none of the "talking head shills" on TV had AL going in the middle of the 1st.  Most had him mid 2nd so there is a chance Gruden and Mayock are smarter than the TV shills I mention.  The only problem with that is their track record.  They have done this in the past and those players have not panned out.  Ferrell, Abram and Arnette just to name a few.

The other thing is value and our inability to trade back.  We have seen it YOY.  It was the same thing as last year with Arnette and it's not like we're talking about a generational talent that fell into our laps here.  Say we trade back into the mid to late 20's and someone swoops up AL, big deal there are some other quality RT's on the board at that point.

This team lacks direction and quality talent.  We are stuck in neutral and have a roster devoid of talent/depth across the board so we draft a projected 2nd round RT who appears to be a project.

I wish a reporter would ask jon or mike this;
We have seen you reach (based off media rankings) in the past, what gives you the confidence that you are always the smartest in the room?
Especially with other reaches not really working out.

But i know they never will.

I mean I feel that. But I guess these are my thing:

MM I did say that they expect him to start day one out right tackle so there’s that. My big problem would be if he didn’t start it right tackle or if he started it right ankle and he did not do well and then like say someone like Darrisaw did.

Who would you have drafted at 17?

The answer would be easy. That's our board and we follow it. I'm sure no team ever changes their board based on what the media says.

Yea the point im trying to make is, every year with Gruden, our board is apparently very different than others.
I think the generic Media pick so far would out do almost every pick we have made.

So what gives Gruden / Mayock the confidence that they are smarter than everyone else.

also they obviously dont change their board, but maybe change scouts the following year, or do things differently.
you have to be constantly learning, evolving.
It doesnt appear we are willing to learn or evolve, we are set in our ways.

That is not a good thing.

I haven't done a ton of research this offseason but I would have went Edge or CB.  Farley was intriguing but I have no clue if his back checks out or not.  I feel the value for AL was just not good considering there were other RT prospects on the board and we could have traded back to acquire more picks and picked up a similar player in the mid to late 1st.  Same with Arnette last year.

We have a lot of holes to fill on a roster devoid of legit talent and depth.  Gruden and Mayock prove YOY that they have a terrible eye for talent and are steering this franchise in a direction that I can not comprehend.

I don't know about Gruden but if we're talking about the media opinion being the reference, Mayock used to be just that. So he could easily told them they used to judge value based on his opinion when he was doing it for the TV show.

For sure, I do believe there is some truth to that wiht Mayock.
I def used that to comfort myself after the Cle pick too haha.

Really hope we get aggressive and make moves today

I admittedly I wanted Farely or Phillips. But I had to play devils advocate to myself. Farley has back problems that he may plague him for the rest of his career and possibly shorten his career. Jalen Phillips has the same thing but with concussions.

as someone who played corner I don’t really trust any other corner that was drafted in the first round. Now one thing I thought was interesting is a lot of the players that were considered first rounders or players that raiders passed on actually didn’t get drafted by anyone.

Azeez

jok

Moerig

Tevin Jenkins

that’s why I’m wondering Who everyone would’ve picked. Because it seems like the mock drafts were completely inaccurate for pretty much almost every team Outside of the top 5.

Curious everyone’s thoughts on Moehrig and if he would’ve been the pick at 17. In hindsight that would’ve been a major reach no? Every single team passed on him in the first round and everyone here was ready to take him at 17. Same goes for JOK. Media boards don’t equal team boards.

And we knew this coming in! It was a crazy year. People said left and right we’d see “reaches” and “drops” due to lack of info and face to face time. People fall in love with DJ or Kipers big board and that becomes gospel. It’s worse when (guilty of it too) we all build our rankings off of there’s. It’s an echo chamber.

I never wanted either of those players as they both are not good value.  The Safety value in the 2nd and 3rd is good every year and S is a non impact position.  That being said I would love to see us take one today.  Holland and Cisco are potential targets I would like.
