swede700
While the stats are impressive, I still find them skewed considering how the rules bend so much towards the offense. While they'd still be impressive, I'm not sure their stats would be anywhere near this if they had played under the same rules as Dan Marino (who, arguably, was the earliest version of their style of play). vike daddy
While the Vikings weren’t reported to have shown any interest in Richard Sherman when he was released, it sounds like Sherman was certainly interested in the Vikings. According to a column from Robert Klemko, who is apparently taking over Peter King’s old spot at the MMQB, Sherman was only interested in “sharing a sideline” with a couple of quarterbacks following his release by Seattle. Sherman says he chose the 49ers after being released by the Seahawks on March 9 for a wealth of reasons, including his familiarity with Saleh, the money offered, his respect for head coach Kyle Shanahan’s offensive scheme, and the quarterback. In fact, there were just two QBs Sherman says he was interested in sharing a sideline with in 2018: Kirk Cousins, who jumped from Washington to Minnesota in free agency, and Jimmy Garoppolo. Sherman then goes on to talk about Garoppolo, and the column never really expands on Sherman’s desire to be on the same team as Cousins. But, since I don’t think that Klemko (or any other reporter) would make something like that up, it would appear that Sherman had at least considered coming to Minnesota as a free agent. https://www.dailynorseman.com/2018/7/16/17577212/richard-sherman-minnesota-vikings
SteelKing728
Wait, I thought Kirk Cousins was a "bad" QB though!! Looks like NFL players have to disagree on that one, huh?
swede700
This is a fantastic article. Quote Vaulting ambitions, shifting allegiances, dynastic dreams—like any high-stakes family business, NFL team ownership can be riven by rivalries, competition and succession struggles. In an era of soaring franchise values and intense public scrutiny, internal feuds that foster instability and uncertainty remain a major headache for the league https://www.si.com/nfl/2018/07/16/nfl-succession-family-ownership-bowlen-benson-adams-mccaskey Zygi and Mark are joined at the hip, so it'll be interesting to see what happens if and when Zygi gets a little closer to the age of a Tom Benson or Virginia McCaskey. He's actually only about 6 years older than Zim, so he's still kind of a young pup amongst NFL owners.
vike daddy
It’s been a little over four months since All-Pro left tackle Joe Thomas announced his retirement from the NFL. In the time since making that announcement, Thomas has quickly ensured that he no longer resembles the large man who held down the left tackle spot for the Cleveland Browns for the last 11 seasons. In an appearance on the NFL Network on Monday, Thomas said he has shed 50 pounds since the end of last season. Thomas was listed at 6-foot-6, 312 pounds in the Browns 2017 media guide. Thomas: “I was more eager to lose weight than almost anything in retirement.” https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2018/07/24/joe-thomas-has-dropped-50-pounds-since-last-season-after-announcing-retirement/

swede700
That's absolute craziness. Apparently, the Rams are going "all in" this year, because that contract is going to hamstring them soon enough, especially if Goff turns about to be good. I guess we'll have to see the structure and see when the "out" is.
vike daddy
Sam Beal’s rookie season is over before it began. Beal, whom the Giants selected in the supplemental draft this month, will miss the entire season with a shoulder injury, according to Dianna Russini of ESPN. That’s a big blow to the Giants, who gave up their 2019 third-round draft pick to get Beal. They were expecting him to be able to contribute immediately, and not have to wait until 2019. https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2018/07/25/giants-lose-supplemental-draft-pick-sam-beal-to-shoulder-injury/
vike daddy
If Jordy Nelson is on his last legs, the Raiders have seen no sign of it. Nelson, 32, has looked like the Nelson who averaged 1,219 receiving yards from 2011-16. Nelson caught only 53 passes for 482 yards and six touchdowns last season, and when he balked at a pay cut, the Packers released him. The Raiders snatched him up less than 48 hours later to pair with Amari Cooper. Derek Carr: “The thing you hear about is that he can’t run anymore; that’s false. I can tell you he’s one of the fastest skill guys that we have still. He can run.” Jon Gruden: “He’s wired in. You can see why he was a security blanket for Rodgers for all those years. He’s proven to us he can still run. We can line him up anywhere we want. And he can run any route we draw.” https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2018/07/27/jordy-nelson-showing-no-signs-of-slowing-down-can-still-run/
SemperFeist
There’s never any signs of aging or slowing down, everyone feels better than they have at any time in their career, and everyone is in the best shape of their life. It never fails.

Nelson vs the Packers other top receivers, measured game speed (from NextGen stats via AirYards.com): Nelson was faster than Cobb last year and comparable to Adams. Right around the positional average, a little faster in short distances and slower in medium distances To put that in context of Vikings WRs, Thielen’s game speed last year was very similar to Nelson’s, right around average for a WR. Diggs was significantly faster, Treadwell significantly slower. Edited July 28, 2018 by Krauser
