NFL Snooze News: Volume Four, Por Favor

Cearbhall took the high road, so I'll take the middle road: no team wants Colin Kaepernick. Looking at his skills and accomplishments alone, is he a more promising backup than Matt McGloin? Absolutely. But there's more to this than Colin's skills and accomplishments. There is also the alternate spelling of his first name. It goes like this: C-I-R-C-U-S. The guy opened an economy-size can of worms that is now wiggling all over every team's plate (and possibly will be for years to come) just to get himself one more season of attention and relevance in football. Now it's over. The NFL is tired of him. A reasonably competent but regressing backup quarterback with a longboat full of baggage, for a year of distracting non-football flapdoodle from the media, is not any team owner's idea of a bargain. That's why he hasn't been signed. If I'm an owner, that's not "collusion." That's common sense.

Colin Keapernick is 3-19 as a starter without the coaching of Jim Harbaugh. So, unless you’re Michigan, what would lead a team to believe that Keapernick would help them win games?

Kaep has no ability to lead a team to victory but as we saw with the Harbaugh's 49ers, they didn't need much from him. Kind of like what MN asks of its current QBs. Unfortunately for Kaep, the mental part of being a QB never developed for him and I can't imagine that hes becoming a smarter QB while waiting.

Kaep might do okay on a stacked team, unfortunately there aren't any stacked teams in need of a starting QB. Houston and Green Bay are okay from a talent standpoint but I don't think adding Kaep really moves the needle for either team.

Right. And if a team doesn’t think Keapernick is going to bring more wins, why invite the added baggage and distractions? Even if, from a fantasy football standpoint, he’s a better QB than someone else.

The drop-off from Deshaun Watson to Tom Savage is incredible. The Texans were the highest-scoring team in the league with Watson at quarterback. Then Watson got hurt and Savage started on Sunday, and the Texans lost to the Colts while scoring just 14 points — seven of which came from the defense returning an interception for a touchdown. Here’s all you need to know about Watson and Savage: Watson has thrown 204 passes in his career, and he has 19 touchdowns. Savage has thrown 149 passes in his career, and he has one touchdown.

Because the 185 passing yards and 1 TD that Keapernick has averaged in games not coached by Jim Harbaugh really would have made that difference.

Maybe not, but last year he threw 16 TDS in 331 attempts. Much closer to Deshaun Watson numbers than Savage.

And he did that without Hopkins and Fuller...

While winning 1 game and leading an offense to an average of 18 points per game in his 11 starts.

Yes. Let’s just ignore the disparity of talent and coaching between the 49ers and Texans.

Adam Schefter ✔@AdamSchefter

Former Packers’ TE Martellus Bennett claimed on waivers by the New England Patriots, per source.

Ryan Wood ✔@ByRyanWood

#Packers OLB Ahmad Brooks said he asked Marty Bennett about the retirement announcement when players returned from the bye. "He said he was just talking crap," Brooks said. Brooks told me he does not believe Bennett was sincere about retirement.

Cap Space=$3,810,012 @patscap

Bennett is due $13M in 2018 and in 2019 but none of it is guaranteed. As @TexansCap pointed out yesterday if the Packers file a grievance and win the Pats will get the credit on the cap. Grandmaster chess move by Pats.

looks like the Packers got trolled.
