NFL Snooze News: Volume Four, Por Favor

So now we know why Cardinals cornerback Patrick Peterson was mad at the team. They refused to convert a large chunk of his $11 million to something other than base salary, which would have allowed him to reduce the $3.88 million he’ll lose during his six-game PED-and-masking-agent suspension, possibly dramatically.

Peterson cheated, tried to cover up the cheating, got caught cheating and trying to cover up the cheating, and then wanted the team to help him essentially cheat the system through not-so-creative accounting practices. The last part is legitimate, a financial loophole that the league has never bothered to try to close. But it was smart for the Cardinals to say no.

First, the Cardinals are saving $3.88 million, in both cash and cap space. Second, the Cardinals have more flexibility regarding Peterson’s future. Because he won’t be on the active roster when the regular season begins, Peterson’s 2019 base salary won’t be fully guaranteed. If they decide to move on from him during or after the six-game suspension, they can.

I generally read this site on a mostly daily basis...but I had to post this pic...as I'm not sure that I ever realized that the Houston Oilers had silver helmets at one time.  That's amazing!

And they have a link to a 2-hour video on there that VD and VV will surely want to watch when they have the time, since it's a video showing lots of plays of various teams from the period of 1965-70.

Got through some of it...the music that NFL Films used in the '60's and '70's was my childhood soundtrack!  It was interesting to see players that I had forgotten about...Tommy Nobis...Donny Anderson...Jim Hart...Don Maynard...Terry Hanratty...

Maybe the Jets think the third time will be the charm. As the Jets begin the search for their next General Manager, one of their candidates is familiar to the organization, even if he has no ties to coach Adam Gase.

Via Brian Costello of the New York Post, Vikings assistant G.M. George Paton — who they’ve asked to talk to — has turned them down twice. Paton declined to be interviewed by the Jets in both 2013 (when they hired John Idzik) and 2015 (Mike Maccagnan). He’s turned down other chances to interview with other teams during his 12 years with the Vikings.

It’s unclear if he’ll interview this time.

Perhaps after the 3rd time they'll get the hint.  Maybe he just really likes Minnesota and not interested in the extra pressure/responsibility?

"After turning down numerous opportunities to run other NFL franchises in recent years, league sources said Vikings esteemed assistant general manager George Paton is ready to leave the organization this winter if the right situation emerges. Paton remains on a short list of men considered the most attractive to other owners, along with Joe Douglas (Eagles), Will McClay (Cowboys) and Nick Caserio (Patriots)."

I vaguely remember a whole conversation related to his reported willingness to move on. Wasn't his recent willingness to move on owing to the graduation of his kid from high school?
