Warford is definitely better than Elflein, but not a good fit for the Vikings wide zone run scheme. It's unusual that he was released. The Saints invested a first round pick in order to replace Warford at age 28 (29 in June), despite him being on a decent contract ($8.5M AAV) and grading fairly well last year. Andrus Peat, the Saints LG, is a much worse player (and only 2 years younger), but they extended Peat this offseason, drafted Ruiz in the 1st round and got rid of Warford. That seems like a red flag: the Saints are good at evaluating OL, so the fact that they took a $5M dead cap hit to cut him this week shows they really don't want him around for whatever reason. Saints fans are saying there were concerns about his conditioning, though to be fair he still played pretty well last year despite that. If he'd hit the open market this year, Warford would've easily gotten $10M+ AAV on a long-term deal, though I don't think the Vikings would have been in on him at that price (because he's not a scheme fit). If the Vikings could sign Warford for a relatively cheap prove-it deal (~$5M/1), he'd be worth it. Edited May 9, 2020 by Krauser
Duff34man
How much do you think it would cost to get Warford and how much cap would we have to clear to be able to sign him?
Krauser
9 hours ago, Cearbhall said: It is disappointing that this is a legitimate question. The Vikings right now barely have warm bodies to fill the position. Given that, they may still be relying on Elflein, which is a very unfortunate state of affairs. The starting LG will be Reiff or Cleveland (whichever one isn't starting at LT, so probably Reiff), and Samia will start at RG. Elflein will be the backup swing IOL. 7 hours ago, Cearbhall said: As far as Samia, it would be great if he earned some playing time this year. He would be showing good improvement even if he showed the coaches they could rely on him to be active on game day as a backup. Samia wasn't often active on gamedays because he only plays one position. Every snap he took in preseason and in the week 17 game was at RG. There are usually only 2-3 backup OL active on game days, and between them, they need to be able to cover all positions. Dozier has started regular season games at both guard positions, played C in week 17, and has also played tackle in preseason. The other backup OL, Hill, has started games at both tackle positions. When Dozier was starting early in the year, they had Brett Jones active as a backup, another guy with experience at both C and G. Samia not being active as a backup instead of Dozier last year doesn't mean he's worse than Dozier or that he needs to somehow beat Dozier out to get a chance to play this year. He's on a developmental course to be the starter. Dozier isn't his competition, Kline was -- and the fact that Kline was released shows the Vikings plan to have Samia start this year. babababa
I hope the #1 priority here is attempting to re-sign Everson Griffen.
swede700
Warford was the reason why Zimmer moved Danielle and Everson inside in the playoff game last season. He was abused by them. Clearly it was not only the Saints that saw that he was a weakness on their offensive line. He may be better than the current guards that the Vikings have, but probably not enough at the cost difference to bring him in. Veteran minimum, sure...anything more, I'd pass. Quote On Monday, there was a report about how much Warford is looking for from one of those teams or any other suitor for his services. Warford was set to make over $7 million in base salary with the Saints and Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that he’s looking for something in the same neighborhood. https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2020/05/12/report-larry-warford-looking-for-salary-around-7-million/ I'd like to have whatever he's smoking, if he thinks he'll get that at this point. I suppose it's possible, but I still think it's unlikely. If someone suffers an injury, maybe.

swede700
Quote With Tua Tagovailoa drafted as Miami’s first-round pick last month, and 16-year veteran Ryan Fitzpatrick adamant about playing next season, Rosen could be on the move. If the Dolphins part with Rosen, they may have to settle for a third-day draft pick (in rounds 4-7) to get the deal done. https://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/miami-dolphins/fl-sp-dolphins-josh-rosen-trade-rumors-20200521-juzaebkfmjantitw7iroyj6hlq-story.html Certainly knew this discussion was coming...
SemperFeist
I’d give a 6th for Rosen. He’s easily a better project than Browning or Stanley, and he may even be a better backup than Mannion. Heck, I’d give up a 5th. If you don’t care about a 5th rounder enough to give one up for a kicker who didn’t make the team, then you shouldn’t care about giving one up for a high potential backup QB. RpMc
It certainly couldn’t hurt. His football intelligence has been held in high regard, so he’d certainly be able to help from a game prep standpoint like backups quarterbacks are expected to do.
