After being benched for rookie Desmond Ridder for performance reasons, Mariota has left the team. And the team doesn’t know if he’ll be back. Coach Arthur Smith has said Mariota will be placed on injured reserve. The minimum four-game absence would knock him out for the rest of the regular season. Smith said Tuesday that Mariota is currently not with the Falcons. Smith told Mariota last Thursday that he’ll be benched for Ridder. We'll have to see...Minshew isn't exactly the same type of QB as Hurts is, so they won't be able to run the same type of offense. I do think a further expansion of the roster would be necessary as well. I imagine the 18th game would be another interconference game, but here's a wild proposal of mine that would include just another intraconference game instead...in the intra-conference division you're playing that year, the team in that division that you finished in the same place as the season before, you'd play a home and home with (in essence as if they were just another divisional opponent). In this case, this year, the Vikings' 18th game would have been a home game vs. Philly (they played them on the road in Week 2). Next year, as it stands currently, the Vikings would likely have a home and home with Tampa Bay (if they end up winning the South...and it'd remind us of the old NFC Central days).
