NFL Snooze News: Volume Four, Por Favor

What may be remarkable...and most people may not remember is that Andy Reid was a somewhat shocking hire by Philadelphia as he was never an OC, and while he did spend a couple of years as GB's QBs coach, he was primarily an OL coach his entire coaching career.  Those types of guys don't often become HCs and when they do, aren't generally all that successful (think of guys like Tice, Mike Munchak, Tom Cable, Bill Callahan).  In fact, the only other one that I can think of that had any brief modicum of success was Art Shell.

Pat Tillman and Joe Delaney have company in the sacrifices made by NFL players.  Delaney and Tillman gave their lives for others. Former St. Louis Ram center, Jason Brown's sacrifice is far different from theirs, but no less inspirational.

Brown turned his back on a $35 million contract and bought a farm in Nort Carolina, even though he knew nothing about farming. He learned what to do by talking to neighbors and watching videos on the internet. Since his first harvest to this year's, Farmer Brown has given 100% of his produce to local food banks, feeding programs and shelters throughout North Carolina. We are talking more than a bushel here and a basket there...we are talking about tons of fresh produce every year! He doesn't make a dime from his farming, but he surely makes a difference.

There should be a wing at the Profootball Hall of Fame that honors the excellence of Delaney, Tillman and Jason Brown, not for football, but for the excellence they show as human beings.

Check out Jason Brown's story on today's CBS This Morning in the Kindness 101 segment. It's really good.

It’s been a long time since a player other than a quarterback has won the MVP award, but 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey has been making a pretty good case for that to end through the first four weeks of the season.

McCaffrey went into Sunday’s game against the Cardinals with touchdowns in every game and the most rushing yards in the league. He left it with 177 more yards from scrimmage and four more touchdowns as he overwhelmed Arizona during a 35-16 win that moved the 49ers to 4-0 on the season.
