The Columbus native signed with the Bearcats as three-star recruit. He played in all 12 games on special teams as a true freshman (five tackles) before jumping into the starting lineup for 12 of 13 games the following season (49 tackles, one interception, three pass breakups). Forrest's production jumped as a junior, leading UC with 106 tackles (3.5 for loss) while also intercepting three passes and breaking up six others in 14 starts to earn first-team All-American Athletic Conference accolades. He was an honorable mention All-AAC selection in 2020 (40 tackles, two interceptions in 10 starts). -- by Chad Reuter”

“Forrest is an urgent player. He's willing and able to play near the line of scrimmage or flow downhill quickly in order to constrict the run lane and defend the flanks against outside runs. His eagerness to jump route fakes and his lack of recovery speed are both very exploitable in man coverage, though. He's comfortable and steady from split zone and has a game that is also suited for playing down near the box. He gets himself blocked by going too far downhill and will have some open-field misses, but what he brings in run support will outweigh those issues.”

Strengths
  • Three-year starter playing with alpha vibe as run defender.
  • Versatility to play two-deep, in the box or occasional big nickel.
  • Quick downhill to fit up and limit running back's angles.
  • Breaks down into balanced platform, exploding hips into contact.
  • Good foot speed in his coverage duties.
  • Displays adequate strength to cover tight ends.
  • Gets people down, limiting yards after catch.
  • Energetic coverage on special teams.

"I don't trust that he can play fast enough to have him play over the top but I can see him playing down safety." -- Area scout for NFC team

This wasvalso a good pick. Good value at this spot

I see him as a back up FS as a rookie but I could see him starting next year or by his 3rd year. Outside chance as always that he’ll really impress like Curl and be a starter next to Curl but given our depth there & what others like Everrett & Reaves proved last year plus Collins returning its hard to imagine Forrest starting.

I’m not sure who will start at safety, but they have a lot more options than I ever remember. Only 2 solidified guys w/ Collins (if he stays at S) and Curl but, definitely a lot options.

Darrick Forrest: I’ll pick a jersey number, when I feel like I’ve earned a number

Gotta love this guy! From Columbus, OH, knows nothing is given and he’s gotta earn it.

Gotta like this! Definitely has FS potential. Could he be a surprise starter like Curl last year and team up with Curl?

His FS tape was actually what I liked. He an Curl are very similar players. They can both cover deep zones but you don’t want them doing it all game. You can mix and have them do various things pre snap then drop one rush one and both can run with TE’s or slot guys. Both tackle very well so I’d expect maybe Reeves starts but I can see Forrest doing like Terry in camp and the ST coach that wanted him doesnt get to even keep him very long

That’s what I was thinking. The potential is there for Forrest to be our FS, he’s similar but more athletic than Curl so he’d be more the free but as you said you can have them mix and rotate between them and show a loot pre snap then change it. I do feel that Everrett or Reaves will start the season at FS but we’ll see what happen after that. If I had my guess it’s that Forrest could be a stater next year or in two years but that all depends on what Reaves does & how he develops this offseason as well.

This is probably the player I’m most excited about after Jamin. Was doing a ton on Ridder for this year and their CB Bryant and Forrest really stuck out. This guy is all effort and he’s got a ton of tools. Good eyes as well. We shall see I love what he said about his number!!! Just really piggybacks off what you see on film this guy is going to work his tail off and I like what Cincy is doing with that staff. I think they could be a sleeper team putting out good pros as long as that staff doesn’t leave for a powerhouse program because he does the right things teaching fundamentals. Very excited to see this guy come TC

I’m excited about Forrest, but my 2nd most favorite player after Jamin is by far Dynami Brown. I can’t watch to see him stretch the field.

That athleticism is going to help in the NFL.  Given our recent success coaching up DBs, I really like this pick.  Also, CIncinnati had a great defense this year, they really showed up in the Peach Bowl against Georgia when they could have laid back.
