Oh... fun.

3.67 - Davis Mills, QB, Stanford. Absolutely baffling pick. Will compete for playing time against Tyrod Taylor, but starting a rookie 3rd rounder on a team with no talent anywhere is a surefire way to end up with the #1 pick, which will have to be a QB, thereby making this pick a one year rental. (And this is IF he wins the starting job).

3.89 - Nico Collins, WR, Michigan. I like this one, a big bodied WR in a crowd of smaller guys in this draft. Good speed, competes well to get the ball. He should get snaps opposite Brandin Cooks right out the gate. (It's one of two picks I genuinely like).

5.147 - Brevin Jordan, TE, Miami. The annual drafting of the TE in Houston. Jordan is a very impressive TE, but the team already invested goodness knows how much in the position. Meanwhile, the defense is considering starting the lunch lady at CB. As a player, Jordan is pretty intriguing and probably forces Jordan Akins off the team... So it's solving for a problem that wasn't a problem.

5.170 - Garrett Wallow, LB, TCU. Hey, a defensive player. Undersized LB, lacks top end speed but plays with aggression and instinct. Probably a future ST ace at best, could be an intriguing rotational piece in Lovie's Cover 2.

6.195 - Roy Lopez, DT, Arizona. Back to back defensive picks! Heck yeah! I actually think this could develop into a good pickup down the line. Big, strong NT who plays non-stop and has the strength to occupy multiple blockers. I don't think he'll get sacks or major TFLs, but he opens up the opportunity for others to get those plays.

Overall - F. The Texans had significant needs, but pretty much ignored them.

I really hate doing draft grades so I'll access my thoughts on each pick

QB Davis Mills:  Definitely a head scratcher given our needs on defense.  I thought for sure this pick would have been a defensive player.  Dont get me wrong Mills has talent but he lacks experience.  Texans will be in a bind next season when they are picking top 5.  Caserio will have to decide if he will use the 1st rounder on a qb.  Even if Mills  plays this season it will still be a sample size.

WR Nico Collins:  Love the pick.  I think people hate it because they traded a 4th next year to move up and take him.  I disagree, the 4th is the Rams pick.  We keep our 4th rounder which will most likely be an early 4th.  Collins gives us a big bodied WR that we really need.  I can see him getting some snaps as a rookie and end the season as our number 2 WR.

TE Brevin Jordan:  Like the pick.  Our TE core is still among the worst in the league and its been that way for a few years now.  Jordan has the most talent out of all our current Tight ends.  This year is make or break for Jordan Aiken.  His potential is already reached. Jordan will challenge him for the job this season watch.

LB Garret Wallow:  I'm a Wallow fan.  Every time I saw TCU play the past 2 seasons, he stood out to me.  He was making tackles like crazy. He was recruited at TCU as a safety so he could show potential as a LB who can cover. At the least I can see him being a good special teamer.  This was a Lovie pick.

DT Roy Lopez:  I can see him adding depth at NT. I cant envision him ever being a starter for us.

3.67 - Davis Mills, QB, Stanford. I know nobody likes it, but I get why we did it. Between him, Trask, and Mond, Mills has the highest upside by a huge margin. His talent outweighs his production and there’s a decent chance he would’ve been a first rounder next year had he gone back. Former #1 QB recruit coming out of high school so the talent is there, but he has a ways to go. Hopefully he starts a few games late in the season so we know what we have in him.

3.89 - Nico Collins, WR, Michigan. I’m pumped we selected a WR early on. Outside of Cooks, just about every other WR on the roster could either be released or walk next offseason. Collins has the body of a possession WR but made his living down the field with his speed.  He’s a bit of a wild card since he sat out last season, but I like taking a chance on him in round 3 as we need more talent at the WR spot.

5.147 - Brevin Jordan, TE, Miami. Fun fact, Brevin is the first player we’ve drafted who was born in 2000 or later (he’s not even 21 yet). I know we had a terrible hit rate with TEs when O’Brien was in charge, but I’m bullish on him having a lot more success. He was the #2 TE in the nation coming out of high school, a three year starter at TE, and produced well while at Miami. I wish he had more short area quickness, but he eats teams alive down the seams. Hopefully he can become the second coming of Owen Daniels.

5.170 - Garrett Wallow, LB, TCU. Undersized, but seems to fit what Lovie looks for. Team captain, always around the ball, plays fast, but might be maxed out. Weirdly not the best in coverage despite being a high school safety. I don’t expect him to be much more than a special teams guy, but fits what Lovie likes to run on defense. This late in the draft, it can’t hurt to take a productive player and see if it translates.

6.195 - Roy Lopez, DT, Arizona. Run stuffing DL who fits best as a nose tackle in a 4 front. Zero issues with the pick, has some Domata Peko to his game (also the hair game to go with it).
