Brady vs Jordan for 2nd greatest North American Athlete of all-time

1. I would not put a team sport athlete under any circumstances down as the greatest athlete of all time.

2. In Brady's sport it is harder to accomplish what he accomplished than what Jordan did in his sport. You can argue that Jordan is more culturally signficant due to marketing. But Kareem, Lebron and Wilt all have a closer claim to being the GOAT over MJ in his sport than whoever is after Brady in the NFL.

Jordan > Brady > Gretzky

I would also put these three in this order... I am admittadly  not a hockey guy but I do understand the Gretzky is up there

Woods, Sarena and Ali also in this conversation unless it is only team sports.

We all know Gretzky is the greatest athlete of all-time

I don’t know this.

I think most non-NBA fans know of Michael Jordan than non-hockey fans know of Gretzky.

I'm not going to weigh in on the topic at hand as it doesn't interest me at all, but cultural significance has little to do with how I weight greatness of athletes. I don't care that Michael Jordan was the best shoe salesman of all time. Which one dominated their sport the most?

I legitimately couldn’t tell you. Don’t know a lick about hockey, probably couldn’t name you 5 players (modern or retired).

as said earlier, team sports really muddle the discussion; I see Mr Gretzky, your team of 6 players consists of 6 HOFers hrm at least Jordan only had 3

someone like Tiger Woods, Michael Phelps or some 1930's boxer i've never heard of is probably the answer

exposure != greatest

If you want to get into how well they are know outside their own sport we can turn this into a Tebow vs Jordan thread.  I am not a hockey fan either but I when I saw this thread the first thing I thought was they better have Gretzky as number 1 just by what he was able to accomplish against his peers.

I would rather have a different athlete than Brady for this tread honestly, as it is not the athleticism of Brady that has made him who he is but rather the intangibles.  Honestly I would put Rice ahead of Brady when matched up against peers.  I do not follow enough basketball to give arguments for Jordan against his peers but I am well aware of the fact that he took away from his prime to try to become a baseball player.

Jordan would still win.

If that‘s the only criteria, then surely Biles/Phelps/Bolt>the field. Could probably throw Serena, and Tiger/Nicklaus in there too.

EDIT: No Bolt, for North American.
