berlin calling
solid starter i guess. We'll see if Tyree Phillips is able to beat him out for the starting position but thats quite the reach iyam. Ravens will probably draft Oline early next year.
AFlaccoSeagulls
That's a lot of money at this stage of FA.

M.10.E
Fine move. Couldn't go into the season with Tyre Phillips as our only option at RT.
MWil23
He's still very capable. He had close to a 75 PFF grade last year. We'll see if it's scheme or something else in Pittsburgh in the personnel department this year.
MOSteelers56
Stupid Ravens, gaming the comp pick formula... ...I'm only mad because we don't get a comp pick for him. If we were in the same position I'd say it was a wonderful move.

Hunter2_1
Is he over the hill then? He was once considered up there for best LT in league not so long ago (I believe....)

RamblinMan99
Villanueva is a far better lineman than most people think he is. That’s why Baltimore fought tooth and nail to sign him.

It was known for a while know that Baltimore was actively pursuing Al Villanueva. That’s no secret to anyone. And no, he may be past his career peak, he but can still play. Like we were going to cut him just 2-3 years ago.
Tk3
Villanueva isn't great, but he's not a bum either I'll take Villanueva + Oweh + Ben Cleveland + whomever else they got over Orlando Brown + Creed Humphrey I'm not sure how the contract is structured yet, but I'm guessing it'll be fine for them

And yet they(and the entire NFL) waited until he doesn't effect the comp formula to sign him. That doesn't sound like fighting "tooth and nail." Also the vast majority of NFL fans think he's one of the best LTs in the game, as evidenced by people in this thread. His perception has always been considerably better than his game because of the anthem thing. He was a very good LT for a year or two, average for a few more, and borderline bad for a couple including the last few.
wackywabbit
Kind of interesting that no one complains about this wait to sign process. The only thing stopping a player/team from doing this with top of the market (3rd round comp pick) guys is the trust between player and team that they won't change their mind after the draft. I'd probably have an issue with it, if it wasn't my team exploiting the loophole 😆😆
