With his size (6'6" 265 lbs) I have to imagine it's not an issue.

The weight doesn't concern me much - but the height does (at face value). Without really watching him much, I have to ask: Does he get low enough or "bend" enough off the edge from a 3 point stance? Chances are we're not going to get much of a looksee on this detail over the next few games, but it's what I'll be playing attention to in the next few months.

A plus on Hutchinson - during the preseason, he was ranked as the 2nd most notable "freak" in Bruce Feldman's CFB Freak Athlete list (behind Alabama LT Evan Neal - who is basically a 6' 7" 360lb mutant):

People say that Hutchinson might be a bigger freak than his former teammate, Kwity Paye (21st overall pick last season, to Indianapolis). Paye had moderate production over four years in Michigan, but tested through the roof at the combine, and everyone felt the pick was a solid one. Hutchinson has that same sort of physical ability to test well... but he's also got a really good amount of production to lean on.

I read these were his offseason pro numbers:

Michigan off-season proday
40 time- 4.64
Vertical - 36”
3 cone - 6.54
Shuttle - 4.07

If he has that same production at the combine, he definitely will be a top 2 pick

Honestly? That puts him in the 1.1 conversation - highly productive, incredible athleticism.

If these numbers carry over and Thibs does what he does, it's going to come down to medical evaluations - Hutchinson had a broken leg last season, Thibs had the ankle injury. Who healed up better?

This is starting to gain traction. A few people take Hutchinson's performance against OSU, combine it with Dan Campbell's requirement for relentless players, then playing up his locality in Michigan (born and raised, dad played for Ann Arbor) and now he's getting push as a 1.1 guy.

Thank god you guys own us and will be beating us in a couple weeks.

C'mon... If the Jags are picking anything other than a LT, Trevor Lawrence is going to end up like Andrew Luck...

Evan Neal should totes be the pick, don't risk fate.

I would go all in on Hutchinson as well if we arent picking 1.  The game he had vs Ohio St yesterday was amazing.

So, not related to draft... but worth discussing:

Aiden Hutchinson is getting momentum as a Heisman trophy candidate. His star is skyrocketing right about now.

I said after the OSU game that he'd be my Heisman and if a defensive player will ever win again this is the year. No offensive player has that great of a resume. Hutchinson just beasted for a CFP team against thier archrival who was ranked #2. He has a Michigan record for sacks in a season and this is Michigan not some bottom feeding team that doesn't care about football. I still fully expect it to go to Stroud or Young if he can lead Bama to the upset over UGA.

I want Hutch so bad in this draft.

They've blown quite a few 4th quarter leads so they're bound to win 1 or 2 eventually.

My big fear - regardless of 1.1 or 1.2 - is that a guy like Matt Corral or Carson Strong will look good throwing in shorts/t-shirt and Wentz/Trubisky/Wilson their way into that spot for the Texans.

Both Hutchinson and Thibs are great picks - upside as well as high floors - and to let them go because a dude throws the ball well in a scripted workout would be the epitome of stupidity.

  • 2 weeks later...

This week vs Jax is likely going to decide who picks at 2 - and with Jax getting out from underneath Urban Meyer, I'm pretty confident in saying that Jax is going to win.

So the Texans will likely win the Kayvon Thibodeaux sweepstakes, but in the event the Texans are picking 3, who would you want?

I'm fully on the Kyle Hamilton train with the pick - I'd honestly consider him even over Thibodeaux, to be fair. I think he's a difference maker in the secondary, a guy who can line up at multiple positions and impact the game at each level. He can play zones, he can play man on the slot and in the boundary, he can cover backs out of the backfield, he can attack when he sees run... He reminds me a lot of Troy Polamalu in that sense, an incredibly athletic S who plays with enhanced football IQ and instincts.

Defenses are getting creative with how they deploy these sort of players, and Hamilton could be that sort of guy for this team.
