If Kmet gets hurt we can’t play Holtz that much.

I would love to see a real TE3 find his way to the roster. Houston has a ton of developmental TEs who have played a little and they just added Brevin Jordan.

I would as well but as of right now I don't see anyone who offers us much out there...like you said after cuts are make we could be in a different position.

we did sign cheese - so now its Quan, Danny, Cheese, and a fight between Woods/Iggy to be #4 - do we carry 5 ILB again? (did we carry 5 last season? i don't recall) plus cheese/iggy/woods are all FA after this year, and we have an out in danny's contract after this season as well

Jones isn't a good player...he is an average at best backup...I would take the likes of Goodson or Campbell long before him.

we've still got Roberson or Robertson w/e his name was...... the big time CFL corner that was supposed to be a thing last year but got injured in TC and just IR'd for the season. He could potentially be something, we still haven't actually seen.

If someone like that with some pedigree and experience would be available that would be nice.

I know the coaches like Artie Burns, but it feels like CB2 is a battle between Trufant and Vildor, and Trufant has been really bad for a couple of years.

I thought Vildor held his own last year when called upon. Desai would know best what he can and cannot do too. Developing players taken on day 3 as potential future starters means we have to actually give them the opportunity to compete for a starting role at some point. I don’t think Fuller gets released without at least some level of comfort with what was already available as far as in-house replacements go.

Burns to me is just a guy, and the biggest with Trufant to memory hasn’t been what he does when he’s on the field but rather his ability to stay on the field.

Fortunately recovery time from ACL tears and surgery is much faster than it once was so I'm thinking Cohen will be as good as new once he trusts himself to plant and cut on that knee again.  But if he's at all hesitant the kid from NC we drafted, Dazz Newsome, was also a PR in college and a slot guy so he and Miller will be in competition for both spots unless Miller get traded.

On the one highlight KR I saw of Herbert he looks like a kid who can handle that role.  He's not blindingly fast but he's a smooth runner who kind of flows through the gaps his blockers create.  Great vision and anticipation.  No one is gonna replace Patterson at this game.  Based on his average per return the guy is the 2nd only to Gale Sayers as best KR in NFL history.

I think we are actually on the same page, I was arguing with some other dudes.

For me they're are just a few players that I think are worth keeping on the rosters that others dont....no big deal

My argument is that special teams still exists...I know you dont build a roster around it but its not nothing.....like at least 1 of the WR has to play ST

ST scores can be back breakers that turn a game completely around and demoralize an opponent with an added bonus of nearly always starting drives with better field position and a shorter field.

Having not one but two of the best return specialists in the NFL would have been a very nice benefit to have.  If there was any way of keeping Patterson I'm 100% certain we would've because he is also an exceptional ST gunner.  We are definitely gonna miss him.

My issue really isn’t Vildor. It is more Trufant, he was terrible in Detroit last year. I am not sure he is the veteran competition and depth we need.

Beyond Johnson what we lack in quality as far as replacing Fuller seems to be based on quantity and the hope that Desai and his staff will be able to produce at least one quality CB and a quality backup.  No doubt it's a weak spot right now but I don't see much chance of any help on the horizon.

Agreed. Passrush is a CBs best friend but this seems like a hell of a lot more stress on players like Quinn bouncing back and Gipson taking a big step forward. It's easily the worst position group we have on the team

We really need Vildor to step up and grab the CB2 job. Not only would it help us in 2021, but it would be a big cap space and draft capital win for 2022 not needing to address it.

Agreed, Im hoping Trufant tries to save his career

The good news is the 2022 CB draft class and FA pool looks really deep...could we finally get Josh Jackson on the Bears? hahaha
