Only to follow it up with one of their worst. Wales were class though in the 2nd. England looked incredible first up against Ireland. Simply beat the Irish up from the opening whistle to the last. lomaxgrUK
I watched the Waratahs-Hurricanes game. It was a really scrappy fixture, something you would expect this early on. The Canes clearly missed Beauden Barrett, especially when injuries forced Perenara to Fly Half. Still, it's a home game that the Tahs should've won with Foley missing that kick (pretty much) right infront from about 30 out.

The close scorelines certainly look interesting / exciting on the scorecard, but the quality of rugby in round one - left a lot to be desired. I had a rugby splurge & watched the following games - Chiefs v. Highlanders (Live) / Brumbies v. Rebels (REC) / Blues v. Crusaders (Live) / Waratahs v. Hurricanes (REC) / Gloucester v. Exeter (REC) ... Found all the Super Rugby games to be messy disjointed affairs, & the Gallagher Premiership game to be top-shelf. But, it's only round one, so I'm sure the standard will improve. Unfortunately, we're going to see a number of star players sitting out various games throughout the season. The World Cup always takes priority over the other tournaments, & it seems teams are already implementing player workload management strategies. Kurtley Beale was another star player scratched from the opening round encounter with the Canes, simply to give him a rest. Agreed, that was a shocking miss by Foley. Young Harry Plummer had an equally shocking night with the boot for the Blues that pretty much handed the Crusaders the win. Although, it's apples & oranges when comparing a young guy just out of the Mitre 10 Cup / 2018 Under 20s - to a sixty-seven cap International fly-half. Clutch goal kicking is becoming a bit of a lost art in the Southern Hemisphere, & it's all a little bit concerning in a WC year. Two things I'm particularly looking forward to this Super Rugby season... ~ All the young talent coming through & getting an opportunity. Teams are loaded with rookie talent, & it seems more noticeable than previous years. They should get decent game time too, with teams resting / managing their star players. ~ How some of the old heads who have returned to Super Rugby from Europe, Japan, & purgatory - fare? Small Town Values
(NEWS) Julian Savea 'no longer welcome' at Toulon, says owner Mourad Boudjellal https://www.skysports.com/rugby-union/news/16611/11640329/julian-savea-no-longer-welcome-at-toulon-says-owner-mourad-boudjellal Quote Julian Savea is "no longer welcome at Toulon", says club president Mourad Boudjellal. The former All Black has struggled to adapt to northern hemisphere rugby since joining from Hurricanes last year on a two-year deal. Savea has received particular criticism from the Toulon owner after they slumped to their 10th league defeat of the campaign, with the four-time Top 14 champions languishing in 11th spot. "I'm going to ask for a DNA test. It is not Savea that we recruited but 'Savéapas'," Boudjellal is quoted by French publication RMC Sport. "He must have been changed on the plane. If I were him, I would apologise and I would go home. When we reach this level of play, we must apologise and leave." He added: "I told him he was released and he was no longer welcome at Toulon! He has got a year left on his contract. He can do what he wants. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ OK. That's savage. Unprofessional, but straight cold-blooded savage. Tbh, I can't remember an elite player hitting the wall harder than Julian Savea. He literally went from world fifteen left winger - to struggling to make the bench on a bad team standard overnight. Although, Toulon certainly didn't help themselves by trying to play him at inside centre.
hornbybrown
There simply isn’t a club team nor many international teams that do rugby as well as the Crusaders. as I type this they are beating the Hurricanes 31-0 after 44 minutes. The Hurricanes are a good team being systematically destroyed

Speaking of beautiful. The Crusaders young rookie Braydon Ennor is a total bae. NZ rugby hasn't had a bloke this good looking since Richard Kahui (Sorry DC). Might have to put Ennor up as my avi in honour of his devilish handsomeness.

England was something special. 80 minutes of brutal physicality / high intensity collisions. Just a brilliant example of the spectacle that is International Test Match Rugby. An incredible performance from Wales to upset England & blow the Six Nations wide open. Wal v Ire in the final round is going to be one for the ages. I could easily see Wales, England & Ireland all finishing on the same number of Wins/Losses - with (BP) & (+/-) proving the difference. ~~~~~~~~~~~ England's young 20 year old openside Tom Curry is one hell of a player.
