Tons of guys who were given another shot at college football with a 5th sometimes 6th year or more of eligibility because of the pandemic, here are the guys I have in that boat.  The bottom 15 or so I still had as prospects in the current draft for 2021 and did not know they returned to school.  One has to literally look up almost every single guy and try to find out if he came back or not.  This just includes NFL prospects though and did not include just anyone that returned, sure I have forgot and missed some, a few transferred to another school like Seth Green but most did not transfer with the extra year.

Wait I thought Justyn Ross had a career ending injury???

https://theathletic.com/news/justyn-ross-clemson-return/TZXIgRllUIbF

He is going to play next season as far as I know, sure his injury was bad but I never heard it was career ending.  Has a shot at being a good player but sure that could change quickly, and Mike Williams on Clemson came back from arguably a worse injury in the neck and is now in the NFL and doing quite well.

Ross kind of disappointed in 2019 I thought after being so amazing that true freshman season late.  Will see what he looks like now.

Catalon's size makes me think he'll probably drop further than he should. He may only measure in at 5'10 if that.

I also think Dalton Wagner is more likely to lose his starting spot than get drafted, he's not that good IMO. As far as Arkansas players I might have CB Montaric Brown and LT Myron Cunningham on there before Wagner and Kern.

Really intrigued to see what time Burks will run. He's supposedly dropped from 230 to 220 this offseason.

Speaking on what I know (Ohio State), a few comments:

  • I'd be that one of either Teradja Mitchell or Dallas Gant (possibly both) play well enough to be draftable
  • I wouldn't be totoally shocked if Nicholas Petit-Frere left early and was a rd 2-3 pick, he was very good and dependable last year
  • Ruckert is going to test well and is a good run blocker as well, I bet he ends up more in the 30-50 range.
  • I get Zach Harrison being lower, but he's going to test well and I bet that boosts him into that same 30-50 range as Ruckert
  • Actually think that might be a little high on Thayer Munford. He's good, but he's older and has an injury history, so I think he'll probably go somewhere in the 45-90 range.
  • Also think you are high on Tyreke Smith.  He hasn't done much rushing the passer, but he is a reliable run defender
  • Think you are low on Haskell Garrett. He's as good or better than Togiai and did what he did last year freshly off being shot in the face.
  • Seems a bit rich for Master Teague.  He's had issues staying healthy and inconsistency in performance.  At times he'll look explosive, at other times, it looks like he is running in quicksand.  I think he'll test average athletically.

Catalon I might have a bit high but I think he is a big time safety and had a great RS freshman season.  He is tough, can really tackle and is solid in coverage.  Size is not really that important at safety, sure it is nice but if you can cover and hit being 5-10 is not a problem at all.  I like Wagner's size obviously and athletic ability but sure will have to improve.  Kern I like his toughness and playmaking at TE but sure he will have to improve as well.

Burks is a big time receiver and should have an outstanding season, smart to lose a few pounds potentially and increase his speed but will see.

Interesting with Dax Hollifield on there as a 5th. He's underachieved at VT so far, but we'll be on his shoulders to anchor the front 7 this year.

Dax I feel is totally poised to become a big time player, if anything a 5th round pick is pretty low for him, but with the loses they have had at LB I think Dax could become the man there and really increase his production.  I like his toughness, strength to get off blocks, is a passionate player who can make plays.  I think he could have a great year and if anything could be a higher pick.

Devin Taylor is a prospect as well, I will have to include him into the rankings, he could be decent as a safety/corner.  Conner will be curious how good he is, might have him a bit low but will see.  Overall that VT defense has been a disappointment of the past few years and if anything the entire team has been a disappointment.

Zach Harrison I might have a little low but both he had Tyreke Smith really need to pick up their level of play.  Tyreke Smith I like his burst off the ball a bit more but yeah if one works out great they could go high in a some what down DE class in terms of depth.  Still Tyreke seems a little quicker off the snap, but will be curious which one stands out.  Garrett is good but not sure I would call him better than Togiai, that guy has crazy strength, not sure Garrett has that type of strength but will see if he can improve off last year.

Petit-Frere has potential to be very good granted but need to see a bit more out of him.  Still to me Munford is far more of a proven player than Petit-Frere.   Ruckert yes could have a great year, really ended the season well and was a big time weapon but will see if he can keep that up.

True I could be a bit high of Teague but I like his toughness between the tackles but granted that OL could suck compared to last year.  The loss of Myers and Davis could be massive and maybe they have no real good replacement for either one.  If so yeah Teague's production could struggle.  Myers I thought was really underrated in the process and would not be surprised if he starts at center for the Packers next year because Jenkins I feel is better as a OG than a center.

Will be curious what K'Vaughan Pope, at times he looked awesome but has played very little.  I have heard they are going to get To'o To'o so that could really help that D.

Either way there is no Justin Fields walking through that door, will see if they can keep up that crazy high level of QB play but maybe it is more the WRs and system they are in than the QB, will see.

UW's LT Jaxson Kirkland is probably a name to add. Was 2nd Team All Pac12 as a guard, and was a 1st Team All Pac12 last year as a LT.

6'7 300+

Sure he will be one to look out for next year but I have to watch him more.  I like Victor Curne as a OL prospect on Washington and think he has some potential.  Really sucks Zion Tupuola-Fetui is out for what 6-10 months so maybe the season.  He could have been a pretty high draft pick but still might declare, will see, had a great season last year getting after the QB.  7 sacks in three games is really impressive.

Looks like you nailed some of Wisconsin’s under the radar defenders like Chenal and Benton. Curious what you think of Wisconsin OL Bruss, Beach, and Lyles.

Cesar Williams is another name to throw out there at CB.

I could be massively overrating Benton, Chenal is very good but then again I thought the same about Chris Orr and he was a UDFA so might be greatly overrating him as well.  But those two Chenal and Sanborn hard to find a better group of ILBs and Benton keeps them clean a lot so will see.  The group of LBs in general is very deep especially after Herbig did so well as a FR last year.

That OL I do not think there are any great players on it, they all have to improve a lot which might happen.  Will be curious what Logan Brown looks like but is kind of pathetic honestly he has basically rarely played so far as the 5 star top rated recruit coming out of high school.  Will see if he has any ability.   Bruss I liked a few years back but did not do great last year and kind of struggled.

Caesar is ok but need to see more from him, Wildgoose was a better pure corner with better coverage skills.  Jack Dunn could have a breakout year and do some things.  Reggie Pearson transferring is a big loss, he had outstanding range and could really do a lot of things on that defense, that will be a loss, Nelson is good but does not have the range and versatility Pearson had.

Rayshard Ashby has been the leading tackler or 2nd leading tackler on the VT team the past three years Dax has been on the team.  So take Ashby out of the lineup and no reason why Dax should not have chances to show what he can do, to me he is easily the best LB on the team currently.  Granted Ashby was not signed by a team was he as a UDFA?  Odd he was not I thought at least he would get a shot as a UDFA, sure is undersized but knows how to play but in todays NFL most only seem to care about how a LB plays in space, can he sack the QB and how much range he has in coverage overall.

Sure Dax is not that type of guy either but still think he has toughness to be a decent ILB in a 3/4 and with improved play and overall conditioning might be able to play in a 4/3.

No to Jack Dunn, he’s a 6th year Sr and hopefully won’t even be in the two-deep. If he is playing at all we have bigger issues.

Chimre Dike is the WR to keep an eye on although he won’t be eligible for the 2022 draft.

Jack Dunn had more yards punt returning last year than Alex Erickson had in college, and Erickson is still in the NFL mostly because of his return ability.  So if Dunn continues to improve overall and keep up his return skills he will have a shot maybe at the league if he shows he can be a threat as a return man.  Dike is ok but I am not a fan of how he is put together physically but sure has some deep threat ability, and same with Pryor and Davis both are ok but not sure they are next level receivers and both would have to greatly improve and both seem to be constantly hurt.

Hope you don’t mind me sneaking in a selfish question, but for dynasty fantasy football purposes, what do you think the standout stronger than average 2022 group is for both offense and defense??

I do not have current roster information, usually try and get a college football yearbook with current and updated depth rosters in late May.  So have not looked that over yet fully.
