Ehhhh, not sure what I think on this one. This has to mean they think he'd cost more than $9M to acquire next offseason (so you spend $500k this year to save more next year, and guarantee the signing.) Otherwise it just doesn't make sense financially. I kind of find it hard to believe he'd warrant that much if they just waited an offseason though. He'll be basically three years removed from football at that point. I doubt anyone would've given him more than a prove it deal next year. Presumably at least none of that 2022 money is guaranteed. If any of it is, then I definitely don't like it.

He's only guaranteed 2.5 million next year. He needs to earn the extra 5 million in incentives. Low risk move here.

Is the $2.5M guaranteed, or is the $2.5M just his base in 2022? Because that makes a difference. Guaranteed would mean if he doesn't recover and you cut him, you still owe him $3M total. If it's just his base salary, and he could still be cut if he doesn't recover, then that's a very good deal.

It sounds like only 500k in guarantees and 500k roster bonus in 22.

No, it's about money.

Any nickel put towards James is beyond stupid.

played 16 games, maybe one time in Miami, gets hurt every year, tears his achilles and destroys his knee. Opts out for an easy paycheck, comes back fat and out of shape and such a drag that he tears his achilles in the process and is mad that Denver didn't want to pay him lolololol

That still sounds like a financial decision.

Well your team is the one that gave him a 51 million dollar contract. The Ravens are just paying him 8 million at the most so it's worth the gamble.

Last time we had a guy like this it was Bryant McKinnie and we went to the Superbowl with him, so basically Ravens = 2022 Superbowl champs. Lock it in
