Honestly though, if Aaron wanted a better number 2 receiver, did he not have the option to restructure his contract to give them more cap space? I’m not up on those things so maybe not.

Yes he did. GB restructured almost 10 veterans this off-season in order to:

(1) Get under the cap

(2) Afford their draft picks

(3) Afford Aaron Jones

(4) Have some marginal space for in-season moves as necessary

GB put a LOT of voidable years on those vet contracts and we will be absorbing a lot of dead cap in 2022/2023 because everyone on the team went "all-in" for 2021 except for one player who refused to restructure.

Meanwhile, Brady is happy to restructure to afford guys like Gronk and AB.

This is just such a circular argument. If people think GB should sign Moar Weaponzz for Rodgers, people need to understand they literally, financially cannot. The team is willing to mortgage future cap space to build on the team that's ready to win now. They were willing to mortgage even more (on Rodgers contract) so they COULD make moves to bolster the roster. But he refused.

This link is dated, we've restructured additional contracts since, but it mentions 7 had been done by late April:

Makes sense. And it’s not like #2 receiver was their only hole last year. How about the #2 corner who got roasted by that Scotty guy in the Bucs game? Aaron would rather they spend less on defense so he can have more weapons?

Yes. WR2 is at the bottom of the needs/wants list for this team. People who argue GB should have added more weapons don't have a complete understanding of the roster construction.

As you said CB2 was a much, much larger need. As is/was center, DL, RB, and LB this off-season.

We hired a HC whose offense is literally built around the WR1, TE1, RB1 and blocking WR2 scheme. WR2 is at the absolute lowest level of "need" for the #1 offense in the league if you look keenly at what the offense is trying to do scheme-wise.

(3) Afford B

There is mistake #1. Should never pay top dollar for a RB. Maybe the only exceptions to that rule are the elite pass catching RBs like Run CMC and Kamara.

Most every player in the NFL has automatic restructures built in. Brady was "happy" to redo his deal because they gave him more money. Most players would take more money. They gave him $25m and even if he retires, he only forfeits $16m. Quick math says they gave him $9m for absolutely no commitment whatsoever.

Yep. Most players. But not Aaron Rodgers.

That too 3 offense is because of a QB playing as well as he is. After a while, you can't base it on rankings, you have to look at it in a vacuum - can it be better, regardless of ranking? Are you content with how the offense performed?

but why?  Fuller would not have been beneficial as he was suspended.  Then GB has no future pick to add the supposedly needed weapon for Rodgers.

But I guess a top 3 scoring offense needs more weapons when it is a consistent theme that the defense is the issue

Bingo!  This is what the "he doesn't have enough weapons" crowd never seems to remember.

A day after Rodgers went on a live stream and used the opportunity to seemingly take a not-so-subtle shot at his head coach, the Packers drama is once again in the spotlight. A former NFL GM spoke with FanSided’s Matt Lombardo spoke and absolutely destroyed Aaron Rodgers, claiming that no one in Green Bay likes him and implying that no one will weep if he ends up somewhere else in 2021 and beyond.

“The guy’s selfish. Teammates don’t like him. Coaches don’t like him. It’s all about Aaron. They all deal with him, because he’s a superstar. He helps guys make money and put food on the table for their kids, and people respect him for that.”

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers has the full support of his All-Pro wide receiver Davante Adams. Adams spoke to the media on Tuesday and left no room for interpretation on how he feels about the situation between Rodgers and the Packers.

“I got his back through everything,” said Adams. “He knows where I stand, I’ll stand on a (expletive) mountain and scream on the mountain top that I want him back.”

--------------------------------------------

Adams made it clear that he not only supports Rodgers as a teammate but as a friend. He also believes he isn’t the only member of the Packers who shares his stance.

“Obviously, I’m praying that he comes back,” said Adams. “I think we all want him back…when and if he comes back, we’ll welcome him with open arms.”

is it bingo though? I wonder how good GBs offense is with a league average QB instead of the reigning MVP and a likely top 5 of all timer. Lets think critically, why was GBs offense top 3? Because of the genius of Aaron Rodgers, or because of the duo of Davante Adams and Allen Lazard?
