mission27
How many times are we going to do this? Right now its the foreign substances but we've seen this charade over and over again for as long as I've been alive. This endless tinkering is killing baseball and has been for 30 years. Fans like offense, they like home runs, they like star players. The people who want to see singles and sac bunts aren't in your key demos. But baseball can't accept no longer being the dominant sport so instead of focusing on putting a good quality product on the field they are stuck in a never ending zig zag between offense and pitching to try to capture the perfect formula to take down the NFL and NBA. Its so predictable... Baseball was boring in the early 90s and steroids saved the game. The old farts didn't like Barry Bonds re-writing the record books, so steroids had to go, and the game got boring again from 2008-2015. Ratings plummeted. They secretly juiced the baseball. We got a really exciting game from 2016-2019, lots of dingers and heroes and villains and memorable World Series. World Series ratings rebounded. Everyone made a bunch of money and got big TV deals. One weird pandemic shortened season and Manfred freaks out and nerfs the baseball again, introduces a bunch of stupid pace of play rules, and the product is the worst it has been in the history of baseball. Instead of taking responsibility for making a bunch of unpopular and unsuccessful changes, MLB is leaking stories to the media throwing their players under the bus for using "foreign substances" which has been a part of the game since the 19th century. Stop appeasing the fleas. Bring back the juiced ball. Bring back roids. If you want to still distinguish the true cocksuckers from the average players, give people an extra run for hitting the ball over 425 feet. Get rid of the pace of play rules - they are stupid. If you are really worried about games going too long then add a home run derby style shootout like the NHL in the regular season. But extra inning games in the playoffs are great. Let the pitcher tries to compete with whatever sticky **** they want and their own roids tbh.

Bring back normal extra innings yes, but a pitch clock and rule to force batters to stay in the box would be great.
WizardHawk
Found out something new today. We can’t say **** without it getting x’d out. But, I can call someone a bad name, using the male appendage. Great post btw
TENINCH
The Baseball and Basketball Comissioners are killing their sport. I loved McGuire, Sosa, and Bonds knocking the piss out of the ball. Even more because they were all in the NL.
bigbadbuff
Manfred said that Trout should be responsible for marketing himself. Dude is the worst. The MLB is terrible. And it sucks because baseball is my favorite sport. How this league is being run is horrific. I mean it’s like they don’t give af about their star players or fans. There is great young talent not being promoted, and we have DeGrom who is having the greatest year ever, and instead of embracing him there is talks of cheating and using foreign substances. Seriously, talk radio basking Jake because he controls 100 better than anyone should. Maybe…just maybe he’s that much better than everyone else.
MWil23
Baseball in the 90s and early 2000s: Dingers, Chicks dig the longball commercials making fun of ace pitchers and marketing sluggers, live ball allegations, record fan interest, marketing your biggest superstars everywhere Baseball now: Lets deaden the ball to have fewer homeruns, crackdown on substances that allow pitchers to have grip, debate whether or not Tatis and Vlad Jr showboating homeruns is good for the game, and look at other peripheral issues about the game instead of the obvious.

The fact that it has taken this long to get MLB to take the grip enhacers seriously is the ridiculous part. Instead of juicing balls to help offense, they should have just enforced the rules already in place. I mean, we saw this in 2017 for crying out loud:

It screams that the MLB is looking for something free to "give" back to the players in the CBA negotiations.

I mean, we saw this in 2017 for crying out loud: IMO grip enhancers are relatively overblown unless the spin rate is outrageous. Most pitchers use them for command purposes as opposed to spin rate, meaning most hitters are fine with pitchers having relative certainty of not getting pegged with a 96+ mph fastball. Granted, a sticky substance ala pine tar is pretty egregious, but sunscreen and other similar grip enhancers aren’t generally bad, just like how blowing into your hand when it’s cold or licking your fingers to turn a page help with this. Tyler Glasnow just admitted that without sunscreen it's way harder to throw 100 mph (w/o over-exerting yourself). Perhaps the way for pitchers to get better command is to not throw as hard? Like maybe it'll lead to more balls in play and less injuries in the long-term if pitchers aren't given the means to throw their arms out on every pitch? He’s choking his pitches. The more RPM=More velocity and command, meaning fingertips and not having to hold it further back towards your palm. biggio7
Pedro showed how all you need is the rosin bag and sweat. Or even the sunscreen and sweat. You shouldn't need anything else. Pitchers were taking it way too far, not for grip, but to make the ball dance. It is stupid to do this 3 months into the season especially since it's been going on for so long. Sorry, I thought it was understood I meant Spider Tack and the other newish designer grip enhancers. Nobody gives a crap about sunscreen/rosin. That doesn't add 200 RPMs to a pitch. But then it gets down to the question of enforcement, which is why even the sunscreen/rosin combo had to go.

Jake was doing this for years but nobody talked about it because the Mets sucked, but now that he's having an all time year, a primo marketing opportunity given he PLAYS IN NEW YORK CITY FOR THE TEAM WITH THE RICHEST OWNER and they still manage to **** it up. It's unreal.
