What if Brett Favre stayed on the Jets for 2009?

In 2008, Favre had the Jets at 8-3 before a shoulder injury caused him to stumble in the final quarter of the season and miss the playoffs. He would "retire", end up in Minnesota and have one of his best seasons ever, leading Minnesota to the NFC Championship.

Meanwhile, the Jets made the AFC Championship despite Mark Sanchez's inconsistency.

If Favre stayed on the Jets, do you think they would have gotten past the Colts? Win the Super Bowl?

Depends on Favre's health. If he has the same year in NY as he had in Minnesota, they have a good shot. Apparently, Rex Ryan would have drafted Percy Harvin in this scenario, so Favre would have had another weapon that he didn't have the year before. More than likely, though, he probably blows the game on a late pick like he did against NO, and then falls off a cliff the next year, which probably leads to an earlier firing of Ryan.

That's a good question, though. Another "what if" that would be fun to think about has to do with the Dolphins getting Brees and the Jets losing to KC in Week 17 of the 2007 season (and drafting Matt Ryan with the third overall pick). Ryan and Brees in the East? Suddenly, it's not the AFC Least anymore, and I don't think that Brady and Belichick get six rings.

Being a resident of Minnesota for most of my life, this would have changed things drastically for me. Saints likely win the Super Bowl still, but I wouldn't have to listen Vikings fans cry about that 2009 NFC Championship game for the past 10+ years lol

Never experienced anything else like it.

Does he still sexually harass Jenn Sterger in this scenario?

I've been hearing about the 1998 NFC Championship game for 23 years now from a few of my Vikings fans friends that moved from Minnesota to here. It's not ever going to change. They always complain about their losses.

Yeah the words "Gary Anderson" still seem to be quite the trigger in this area lol. To be fair though, that legitimately might be the most talented team ever to not make it to the Super Bowl.

Minnesota goes 6-10, getting Childress fired and take Devin McCourty with their 1st round pick instead of Chris Cook in the 2nd or draft Tebow.

The Jets still embarrass themselves.

Saints beat Colts in the Superbowl.

Back to back AFC Championship appearances was an embarrassment?

Farve was way better than any version of Mark Sanchez so it would be a fairly safe assertion that the team would have been at least as good, if not better. Especially considering they would have been able to take Harvin without trading away their second rounder which could have been used on Vollmer or Sean Smith.

Of course this does mean that when Farve does fall of a cliff the Jets are probably the team stuck drafting Ponder sooooo.... Maybe that does count as "classic Jets"?

That was a good year for the Jets but it would still be embarrassing to lose in the AFCCG with Favre just like it was for Minnesota in 2009. That game still stings.
