Cowboys were especially done by that point. Bad coaching, worsening roster, etc.

Whats the deal with this poster an 90's teams?

He was probably just really into football back in that era and this is a good place to come to find people who know about all the different eras.  I know I love looking back on the late 80's - early 90's Viking teams with Chris Doleman and Keith Millard.  That was a beastly pass rush that they haven't had since that time.  Old guys like to reminisce.

The 1990s was one of the best times in NFL history...

The Cowboys had a +78 point differential, the 49ers -158. Cowboys had the 11th best scoring offense and 5th best scoring defense. 22nd scoring offense and 30th scoring defense for the 9ers.

Not sure where the comparison comes in here. Unless I'm misunderstanding and this is the 98 regular season version of the teams playing in the NFC title that occurs in 99...

I love 90s ball. Huge shoulder pads with collars, kickers with single-bar facemasks, defenders still allowed to play defense... 😍

But in '99, both teams slumped and finished 8-8. Ray Rhodes wasn't a good fit for GB and only coached there a year. Dallas had deteriorated under Barry Switzer's coaching, while Troy Aikman was getting old (and increasingly concussed). It would have taken a miracle to get both teams to the NFCCG with the Greatest Show on Turf dominating the conference.

That said, I would give it to the Packers.

Priceless. Classic example of what I posted in the other thread regarding Barry Switzer as an unwarranted scapegoat. You get the 1999 Packers coach correct in Ray Rhodes. But Barry Switzer is being blamed for 1999 even though he last coached the Cowboys in 1997.

But don't worry about it. You have tons of company. As I emphasized, opinion of Barry Switzer is one of the great litmus tests in all of sports. It was incredible in Las Vegas that when we asked a sportsbook scene newcomer about Switzer, the ones who had an immediate simplistic negative appraisal were the ones who blew out of town broke on a bus. In contrast, the ones who had a positive big picture overview were the sharp guys whose opinion became valued and successful.

It still works to this day. There is nothing more hilarious than the Happy Adjuster mindset. Dallas won two titles under Jimmy Johnson. Therefore they should have continued to win titles the remainder of the decade and beyond. What could possibly go wrong? If I can't exaggerate the last thing I saw then why am I even alive today?

Are you trying to imply Switzer didnt have a negative impact on our franchise?

I think the rest of your post is just bloviating, but you are correct in that Switzer was no longer the Cowboys' coach at the time. That was Chan Gailey. My bad.

You think the Packers could have beaten any of the AFC teams? Titans? Jaguars?
