When was the last year for the 90s Cowboys to win a fourth title in their core?

It needed to be immediately the following year...1996. Once you are dethroned as champion the following season is normally a letdown. Barry Switzer in 1995 was only the second coach in NFL history to win the title one year after being dethroned.

It is remarkable to win three titles in such a short span. Somehow the recent Patriots have screwed up perspective and allowed backfitting adjuster types to pretend it should have been no trouble for this team or that team.

Does Troy Aikman sound like a quarterback who should have 4+ titles? Very good player but never managed 8 YPA in any season. Lifetime 7.0 YPA. His decline directly coincided with the Dallas decline. Steve Young was averaging basically one yard per attempt higher than Aikman every season throughout the '90s. Darn tough to overcome that type of deficit at the most important position. Cowboys fans should be thrilled at what they ended up with:

Aikman YPA:

1989...6.0

1990...6.5

1991...7.6

1992...7.3

1993...7.9

1994...7.4

1995...7.6

1996...6.7

1997...6.3

1998...7.4

1999...6.7

2000...6.2
