There's a free NES and SNES emulator, at least I think they are free.  You just DL from the game store and they each have like 40 games per.

I think they're free if you have the online subscription which is like $20 a year.

#30 - Fallout: New Vegas

t05bjfctkli61.jpg

Played On: Xbox 360

I love the fallout franchise and the setting and story of New Vegas are top notch. If you've played any of Bethesda's Fallout games you know what you're getting, a top notch huge open world with loads of NPCs and quests awaiting you. New Vegas is no different except it adds in the cool concept of being in a post apocalyptic Las Vegas. The strip in New Vegas is one of the most memorable locations in video game history. You can bounce around casinos doing quests and shooting craps in your down time. The game also has a overarching balancing act with different factions where you can befriend some factions and become enemies of another. These factions cause serious changes in gameplay, making replay value strong as you can replay the game and support different factions the next time. One reason this game isn't higher on the list is that its really glitchy. Also the faction system that I mentioned can cause you some serious problems if you don't know what you're doing. In my first playthrough I had whole factions just attacking me on sight because I pissed them off so much.

In the game you play a character called Courier Six, who gets shot in the head and left for dead in the desert. You survive and must make your way to the vegas strip to meet the mysterious Mr. House, who seems to rule vegas with an army of robots.

#29 - Gran Turismo 3

516194EXX5L.jpg

Played On: Playstation 2

This game is the reason I bought a Playstation 2. There's something really addicting about starting with a beat up Vitz RS and grinding your way to suped up racecar. The variety of tracks is great and there are literally hundreds of cars to buy and sell. You can customize your cars as well, and the grind of winning a race just so you can upgrade the engine on the new car your building keeps you coming back for more. This is a series but I've never played any other Gran Turismo games so I can't tell you if others are better or not. I've definitely pulled out this game several times over the past decade and replayed it, it definitely still holds up. The graphics are surprisingly good for an older game. This is the best racing game I've ever played.

#28 - The Walking Dead Season 1

5-23-19-1.jpg

Played On: Xbox 360

This game has one of the best stories in gaming history IMO. It basically plays as an interactive comic book as you play as Lee Everett, a convicted murderer (but may be innocent?) who stumbles upon a a little girl named Clementine who's alone during the beginning of the zombie outbreak. Lee vows to protect Clementine and the story goes from there. Gripping, gruesome, heart wrenching story. There are a lot of games that promise to have your decisions impact the story, but this one really follows through with that promise. This game came out when the TV show was still good and it seemed like Walking Dead ruled the zombie world. The game continues for many more seasons but the first is definitely the best. I've probably played this to completion 2-3 times, but haven't returned to play it in years.  That seems like a mistake, I need to fire this one up again soon.

#27 - Wii Sports

Wii-sports.jpg

Played On: Wii

This is the ultimate party game. You can fire this up in the middle of a party and anyone would jump in and play it. My friends who had never played a video game in their life would play this game. My parents would play this game.  We'd get girls at parties to play this game. This game brought the gamers and non gamers together. The game is so simple yet its addictively fun. It still holds up too.  My neighbor is not a gamer but owns a wii.  Whenever I'm at his house we will sometimes fire this up and still play it. His daughter who's only 7 plays it with us. Everyone loves this game.

#26 - The Long Dark

Played On: Xbox One

I will acknowledge this game is not for everyone. There is a story mode but the developer hasn't completed it yet. Sandbox mode is where its at. You wake up in the wilderness after crashing in an airplane and you must survive.  That's it. There are no quests. There are no other people in the game. Just you, the cold, your hungry stomach, and wild animals. And yet its sooooooo addictive. The game is brutally hard which makes surviving that much more rewarding. Resource gathering and hunting doesn't feel cheap, it feels like a real accomplishment. The setting is great, with a well designed map and I enjoy the soundtrack too. I have played many many hours of this game.  The first few days (in game) of survival are some of the most fun and hectic of any game I've ever played. I prefer to play with a randomized start, so you literally don't know where you're waking up on the map.  You can be in the middle of the woods having no idea what direction you need to go to get to shelter, with the wind whipping and temperatures below zero.  Tough, figure it out or you're going to die.  And die you will!  Failure is part of this game. If you're looking for a different gaming experience I would highly recommend this game.

#25 - Dead Rising 2

Dead-Rising-2-XB360.jpg?ssl=1

Played On: Xbox 360, Xbox One

This game is the Diablo of zombie games. What I mean by that is not gear grinding, but you do level your character and your character exists outside of the actual story of the game.  When you start the game for the first time at Level 1, there's really no chance of you beating the game.  You have to level up and die (or just fail to complete the main story) until you have to restart the story again, but this time carrying forward the experience you earned.  I really like games like that and I feel like there aren't enough of them. The story is silly and over the top, but the gameplay is pure chaos and very fun.  Craft absurd weapons to slay as many zombies as possible, and don't forget to track down that ever important Zombrex to keep your daughter from turning. I don't usually like games when you're on a timer but in this game it works. There are actually two versions of this game, the original and the equally good Dead Rising 2: Off the Record, which returns the main character from DR1 and has some different game mechanics. Both have their strengths and playing either is equally fun.  The fact that you can play either and it mixes things up actually adds to the replay value. This is a series, and I considered the others but DR1 is just too simple, and DR3 & 4 are just not nearly as good as 2.  Dead Rising 2 is definitely the pinnacle of the series and one of the top zombie games of all time.

#24 - NBA 2k Series

aba4ae4a-a086-4887-b6ce-53341380c373.jpg

Played On: Xbox 360, Xbox One

It's impossible to choose a single year of NBA 2k basketball as the best imo because A) year to year the game doesn't change that much and B) when they do change different versions have different strengths and weaknesses. For instance, the best year of MyGM mode was probably 2k18 which is before they went to the modern stupid version where you have to use action points to do everything. I actually think the current 2k21 is the best version of Park mode, which is the best multi-player experience with MyPlayer IMO.  The old school 2k11 was the version with Michael Jordan and had a fun mode where you could play the biggest moments of his career.  That was a really fun 2k. For all of these reasons I'm just going with the entire series as the pick here. 2k definitely has its faults but its by far the best NBA video game out there. The MyPlayer game mode really has no comparison across any other sports games. Madden has tried but it just isn't as good as MyPlayer.  That's probably just the nature of the sport as 1 player can make such a big impact in a basketball game. I have spent countless hours on this series and believe I've been playing since NBA 2k10. I've posted many franchise modes on this forum which you can go read if you like. This series would have been higher a few years ago before they ruined MyGM mode.  Because of that failure it is lower.

#23 - Rome: Total War

2218779-589390_front.jpg

Played On: PC

This is one of the best 4x games in history.  I've played several of the Total War games and this one stands out as my favorite. The setting is perfect, with a huge map across the whole Mediterranean during a very interesting period of human history.  I think I've installed and played this on every computer I've ever owned. The thing that makes this one stand out from other Total War games is that there is great diversity in the different factions and their units.  Also there is the family tree, which is a really fun side part of the game. Your generals get married and have children (or adopt children) and build a family tree.  You can select who is the heir apparent to take over your faction once your current leader dies.  The fun part of this when you get like 200 turns into the game you can go to the tree and see how your current leader came to power. Also, you can have a 4th generation descendant of your original leader have a battle go wrong for him and completely wipe out that family's line. Its just a really interest tidbit in a game with lots of other stuff going one. There is a remastered version but I prefer the original over that and definitely over Rome 2 which was lame.

If you haven't played the game its set during the antiquity period starting around 272 BC.  Rome is separated into 3 factions all vying for control.  Eventually you can unite the romans into a full fledged empire, and conquer a lot of the rest of the map along the way.

#22 Stardew Valley

capsule_616x353.jpg?t=1608624324

Played On: Xbox One

Who knew that a farming RPG could be so fun? I've played this game a ton, starting at least 4 separate playthroughs and going deep into each. This game is brilliant in that it takes a very simple setting and gives you a ton of mini game type tasks to keep you grinding for hours. The main part of the game is farming, which you do to generate income and complete other tasks. Or you can go fishing, which is a fun mini game where again you can sell the fish for income or utilize the fish to complete other tasks (the other tasks include completing the community center goals, giving gifts to other villagers, or competing in the state fair booth, and more). Or run down to the mine to fight some bad guys and mine for ore. Or just run around and talk to people. Travel to the desert. Get married! Go to the bar and have a beer. Attend a dance. There's a million things to do here. Video games become really special when they are both really well made and unlike anything else you've ever played.  That's Stardew Valley.

#21 - Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines

capsule_616x353.jpg?t=1571098239

Played On: PC

I just replayed this game again recently and it still holds up really well. This game nails the idea of being a vampire, and is the best representation in any video game IMO. The city setting is great, with interesting locations and characters.  The soundtrack is also top notch. The story is so messed up, pretty much nothing good happens in the game.  Very very dark setting and story.  I had the original game, which I believe was called Vampire: The Masquerade Redemption, which is a solid game but it was older and 3rd person.  This game was in full 3D with legit voice actors and a great setting/story and despite coming out in 2004 the graphics hold up pretty well.

You start as someone who's just been changed into a vampire and are thrown into the night to explore modern LA. But the really grimey dive part of LA lol. Eventually an ancient evil shows up and you must decide what part of the ongoing war within the vampire factions you are on.  Infinite replay value as just changing what type of vampire you are changes so much.  There are also a ton of different endings.  Top notch RPG.

Same. That game was awesome. I remember grinding like crazy for a suped up AWD Subaru that was basically the god mode cheat.

Gotta disagree. The Horizon series has surpassed it. FH4 was amazing and I am looking towards #5 soon.

@MKnight82 Watch this. Its a bit long but this guy is one of my favorite people on YT and gives incredible reviews/in-depth look at what makes games so good or so bad. A fellow video game nerd like yourself would probably appreciate his work. And hes entertaining as hell.
