Deadeye
I don't think it's anywhere near being a done deal, but some chatter has picked up: https://www.thephinsider.com/2021/7/16/22578972/we-can-now-safely-say-goodbye-to-xavien-howard So assuming he does get traded, what would we likely get in exchange? Tetsujin
I think it’s more likely than not at this point. I’d take one 1st or two 2nds.
FinSting
That weird dealio where it's great for the player seeking more money, and great for the team seeking compensation. Howard's season was incredible in 2020. Pay the man, or trade the man. You just can't undersell double-digit INT's, it's like instant Win Now for any contender. Deadeye
I don't think we'll get what everyone is hoping for. The two seconds option is the best one to me, and given his contract demands that might be too much. Our FO might have to consider a trade involving a combo of players / picks. Tetsujin
This might be a good “sell high” situation. He’s probably not getting 10 INTs again.
Jdolphins18
These are the kind of players we need to keep, his play has been consistently in the top 5 ranges of CB’s for years. Trading Howard would set this team back, maybe just sign him to an extension and tell him we’ll trade you after this season. Trading him right before the season starts wouldn’t make sense, who would replace him? Noah didn’t look that great last year and is more of a nickel corner anyways. Tetsujin
My problem is after we made him the highest paid CB at the time, he now wants to be the highest paid again after one great season. I’d want him to duplicate his 2020 before we add money.

No ill-will towards X at all for wanting to capitalize on a monster season. No ill-will towards the Fins for not wanting to give him more money after they just went out on a limb and gave him a big contract a year ago. I'm guessing just making more of the contract guaranteed isn't going to be good enough, since it probably would have already been done if that were the case. X is obviously fantastic, but I think his knees are a ticking timebomb. Given the new contract he will require, the new team would probably want to ship some salary back to the Fins. The Saints are supposedly interested if he's available, and I would love to get Erik McCoy in aqua and orange.
Phinsesq
I'd rather they leave his guarantees in place and add in some lucrative incentives so the ball is in his court for that top CB money. He can bet on himself and still get paid but protects the organization if he doesn't.
TheKillerNacho
I'd rather find a way to keep him. Love X.
Tetsujin
Not to mention he missed 11 games in his first big money season.

Deadeye
I wonder if the decision about keeping X could be based on the progress Iggy has made, or not made. I don't think Miami will be in the mood to boost his contract, it will set a bad precedent.
