Play of the Day

During a starters-vs.-starters move-the-ball period, the offense faced a third-and-2. Defensive coordinator Joe Barry tried to substitute but, as coordinators across the NFL have known for years, substituting against MVP Aaron Rodgers is like a game of chicken during rush hour.

Rodgers caught the personnel changes, rushed the offense to the line of scrimmage and caught linebacker Oren Burks as the 12th man on the field. With a free play, Rodgers found tight end Josiah Deguara for a gain of about 15 or 20 yards. After the play, Rodgers was especially pleased with Myers for getting the line set and snapping the ball.

That makes me legit smile though. This is the stuff you love to hear in TC - that your rook center has the control of the offense down to the point he can do that already.

This may be a clue as to why the Packers, to the surprise of a lot people, took Myers over Creed Humphrey. A big part of playing Center in the NFL happens before the snap.

Good point .. maybe you sacrifice just a bit in athletic skill for big brains when it comes to that position.

Lewis was an 8.4 RAS for a TE. He's uber athletic for a TE. Heck, man had a 37" vert. He's an elite athlete at position that honed his game as he aged to extend his career. No way you can turn a career OT into Lewis, even old man Lewis who still has all that athleticism as a baseline (plus decades of functional training and muscle memory for the position, too).

He was.  Key word, was.  And despite being the "uber athletic" TE, he cracked 600 yards once in the NFL.  Once.  His strongpoint has always been blocking.  Which has made him very valuable to us.
