I feel like this was one of those deals they had to do, but they'll be kicking themselves the last 2 years of the deal.

Terms really make this seem like a one to two year extension, with all of the guaranteed money up front. It also reduces his cap hit this year. I would guess a new deal gets worked again (or restructured) by 2024.

That Barr contract isn't great tbh.

In terms of average salary, he's currently the 24th highest paid outside LB.  Career earnings, he's #8, but he'll get dwarfed over the next couple of years.  I can see the argument, especially based on how he's been injured a lot...however, it wasn't an egregious contract.  While it hamstrung them to a certain extent as they couldn't resign someone like Xavier Rhodes and couldn't spend a ton in free agency, I can't necessarily say that they would have done any better in the alternative, since it seemed that Xavier had regressed at the time and certainly Trae Waynes has been injured constantly in Cincy too.
