I want Dresden Files too, unrelated to main topic. I'm not sure who I want for Karrin, but Dresden, I want to hear what Tom Ellis sounds like doing a "normal" American accent compared to his Michael American accent in Lucifer, but he would have a good look and has the height

That's ... not a bad call. At all.

I'm curious about the pacing. There is enough book material for 20 years worth of episodes.

One hopes they don't follow Jordan's pacing ...

Cowboy Bebop dropping on the 19th too. Looking forward to seeing them both.

That is also an important drop.

We live in an age of hyperbole, so this doesn't really move the needle for me.  Kind of why I still like rotten tomatoes, just tell me GOOD/NO GOOD and don't call it the most specialist greatest awesomest bestest show ever before it ever airs.  I was willing to give it a shot based on the trailer, but i'm certainly not sold yet.  I might not get a chance to watch it until next Monday, busy weekend coming up.

Speaking of rotten tomatoes, it’s mixed though positive so far.

I’m going to try to watch some of it tonight. Have you seen it yet?

Caught the first two of the three episodes last night. They certainly changed relationship between Egwene and Rand right up front (no way "clean up after the party" scene happens), and I don't recall Perrin being married in the books (but I realize why they did what they did for his character arc ... just not a fan). Definitely not liking how much weaker they made Nynaeve seem relative to the books (and she isn't pulling her braid!). Mat is way too mellow.

First episode was very slow in my opinion. The first five to ten minutes are somewhat disorienting if you haven't read the books (I assume that guy was Logain?), and puts a lot more of a feminist spin on the world. Not saying that's bad, just a different focus than in the books. Terms that they need to explain (like ta'averen) are being completely glossed over (it would certainly help explain the intro graphics for non-readers).

It started to find its footing a little in the second episode. Hope to catch the third episode tonight.

Edit: The Whitecloaks and Dark Ones' minions are spot on though.

What guy was logaine? I haven’t read the books, but I thought the 3 episode drop was good, not spectacular. 1st episode seemed fast to me- compressed. I liked the Lan?, Nynaeve and Perrin characters the best. It’s not bad, but not great so far either. Intro graphics made no sense to me. I assume Rand is just a farmer right? They didn’t explain his bow either. I think it might have a great ending, but getting there has to involve better characterizations, dialogue and explanations of things IMO.

I actually liked how slow the first episode was and wished it spent more time with the main characters like Rand. It worked well in building up to the climax. I also liked how the gore and violence wasn’t gratuitous and added to the horror of what happened in the climax. So that’s what it looks like if LOTR was rated R. My main issue is the internal narration from Morraine was hit or miss, and so was the CGI for the climax.

Edit: also the actor playing Rand is the weakest link so far.

And yes, Perrin did not have a wife in the first book. She was added. They also aged everyone up so that the after party scene can happen. They were just kids or young teenagers in the first book. As for the feminist spin, it’s always been there given the book’s history about the Aes Sedai. Though Jordan was definitely misogynistic at times given the tropes he gave to the women. I remember reading how Sanderson did a better job of not doing that when he took over the series.

What intro graphic? Rand has a bow for hunting but yes the people there live simple agrarian lifestyles.

The loom and threads?

After watching the first three episodes, something must have happened on set because the guy who plays Mat is very good IMO.

For reasons I don't quite understand, they played down his pranking, joking side in the first couple of episodes. That makes his season one character arc harder to see for the audience.

But the actor was spot on for episode 3.

The guy who showed up in the beginning of episode one and the end of episode three. While he hasn't been named directly, Logain was mentioned by the Whitecloaks in episode 2 so I think that's who that is.

That's a fair assessment. I feel like they got their feet underneath them by episode 3 (probably why Amazon released all three episodes at once).

Rand and his father are shepherds, so he needs the bow to defend his flocks from wolves. He's a decent shot, but we haven't seen that in action.

The bow is a Two Rivers bow, known for its height and its ability to strike at long distances. Right now, it's effectively being used as a way for the audience to tell the characters apart.

One thing I wish they showed more of is Perrin and his deliberateness. Perrin is big, much bigger than the rest of his cadre of friends. As such, he grew up being very careful because he could easily hurt the other kids. This in turn made him make decisions slowly, which to others made him seem slow of thought. He's not, but he just takes his time thinking everything through. Mat is his polar opposite: does things on a whim and with barely any planning whatsoever.
