GDT Week 1 vs. Miami: Mac Jones's First Test

biggie.

Dolphins placed LT Austin Jackson and TE Adam Shaheen on the covid list today. I believe that it is confirmed Shaheen isn't vaccinated so he likely will miss the game.. not sure about Jackson though. The Dolphins OL is pretty suspect, I could see the front 7 of the Patriots dominating them this game.

The big concern is going to be if Tua can be effective in the quick passing game. Pick on Mills/Williams and they could be a threat. Wouldn't be surprised if Waddle had a huge game YAC wise.

I'm going to guess that the running game is pretty effective and Mac has a stat line around 16/25 170 yards 1 TD 1 INT

16 - 10 NE (Nordin misses an extra point but hits a 50+ yard FG)

New England by 16 seems right.

Miami's run defense isn't terrible but it won't convince the Pats to stop pounding them.  When he does pass Mac Jones will do well against those safeties.

Miami's O-Line, coupled with their RBs, won't be able to exploit the closest thing to a weakness the Patriots have.

Not sure how the offense is going to look, but I'm confident it will look like more of the traditional offense.  I'm hoping Mac as at least one of the TE's ready to go to.

Defensively, all I know is our pass rush is going to give that weak Dolphin's OL fits all day. I envision a tough opener for Tua.

OK, here's a more pessimistic outlook then....

Jones is a CB who takes the pass away and forces you to look elsewhere. Elsewhere is where Howard will be who is ball-hawk. Mac is going to get picked off by him at least once, I'd say. That's an elite CB tandem working in harmony. QBs will get frustrated trying to complete on Byron, and Howard gives plenty of room for the WR (so after becoming frustrated the QB gets hungry for this) but he breaks on ball to pick it.

They gave up joint 2nd LEAST amount of TDs through air last season, and had joint most INTs (with...ahem.....us amongst others). QBs had the 6th worst rating against them in the league.

Can't really find anything I'm worried about in their run defense, other than we know Adam Butler can break through on occasion. In fact, both their pass D and run D were statistically very similar to ours.

I think Jones will struggle, but also we can affect Tua and we should be able to run it

I think the pats control the game up front and run on miami all day. Defense will have its moments and give up a few plays to the phins but I think the front 7 will generate enough pressure to get a few sacks on Tua and slow him down.

24- 17 Pats
