vikesfan89
Can't say that Spielman isn't investing in the O-line.

Haven’t been able to say that in years between some big free agent OL and early picks. Well deserved. I’m sure this puts him in the top 3 for RT pay. I absolutely love it but then I'm a homer for Pitt and the Vikings lol He's a very good OL. I hope he spends his entire career here. Skol!! Ozzy
Is it just me or did he give up a lot of sacks and pressures last year? Obviously is the best OL on the team and because he is young have to lock him up but the dude did not dominate last year and not like he has ever been to a Pro bowl or made an All Pro team either. So hopefully this contract helps him take his play to the next level because honestly if I had the choice I would have rather given that money to a guy like Tristan Wirfs. If I could trade O'Neill for Wirfs straight up I would do that all day, Wirfs I think is a better RT and has more upside long term as well. But yeah it wouldn't have been good to let him go

PFF ranked him the 30th best tackle going into the 2021 season, here's what they had to say about him: Quote O’Neill has been average at best in pass protection throughout his three-year career, but he's made major strides in the run game. He improved his run-blocking grade from 58.3 as a rookie to 70.2 in 2019 to a top-10 mark of 83.7 in 2020. O’Neill is tied for 18th in pressure rate allowed in that span but ranks just 41st in pass-blocking grade, meaning he is still losing far too many reps despite not being credited with an abundance of pressures allowed. link: https://www.pff.com/news/nfl-offensive-tackle-rankings-2021-nfl-season so yeah, his pass protection does need work if he's going to live up to his contract.
