Definitely tough. Holt and Smith are the only ones that I can just easily cut out of the conversation. Andre and Julio are next to go when I narrow it down but I mean they are 1st ballot caliber players in their own right so it's not easy. Leaves us with Moss, TO, Marvin, Fitz, Calvin and AB.

I think it's Moss. At his best there was just nobody like him and he produced with a variety of QBs. Next I have Fitz, whose longevity is only matched by Rice, and who managed to produce despite very few years of quality QB play.

  1. Moss
  2. Fitz
  3. TO
  4. Calvin
  5. AB
  6. Marvin

I like this list but I would flip Calvin and AB and that's exactly how I would have it.

Many others.

Same. Moss kinda has that Barry Sanders quality - in that every year we age further past his prime, the more "big fish" the legend of Moss/Sanders is.

Moss was a freak. But he was also a cry baby who quit on teams when he didnt get his way. TO was a major head-case as well, but no one ever questions his effort on the field.

You look at this and TO still jumps out to #1. Yards and TD per game is nearly the best, not to add the most all pro's along with 6 probowls in 10 years.

It's kind of a pick your poison - player who really isn't THAT big of a problem, but will pout and slack off on the field OR player who gives 100% every play, every down, but will create an enormous public disturbance after 2 yrs?

The best bet with TO was to sign him for 4 yrs and trade him halfway through the contract.

And conversely, the best bet for Moss was you had a HOF caliber QB and a coach that he liked. Because if he isnt happy, he doesnt perform.

Thats what happens when you are the ~5th best WR in the NFL most years for the last 2 decades. You put up a HOF stats without All pro recognition. Happens to a lot of great players.

Same reason Staubach, best QB of the 70s, was never All-Pro or MVP. Always one of the best, just every year someone else was a bit better.

Moss and TO with the most TDs even though they were already the best receivers in the league by 1998... crazy
