Even an over the hill Fletch in 2013 was better than what we have now. One of the few acquisitions I was totally wrong on. I didn't want him not because of his resume (I actually loved his resume). I didn't want him because of his age at the time (32 years old). I thought he was going to hit a cliff and his production would drop hard. I was completely wrong.

Clearly he is happy with allowing over 300 yards per game, 30 points per game and having the league’s worst third down defense. turtle28
I’d add DJ Swearinger to that list too, but spot on!
turtle28
I know one thing, Jay Gruden had his flaws, but he definitely had the balls be honest when players weren’t playing well, Kirk & RG3 come to mind in 2014. He also had the balls to bench players, he did with Kirk & RG3 and others players when they weren't performing. Remember when he benched Norman for not listening to him at half time when the Saints were blowing us out in 2018? Gruden would've benched Collins, McCain and possibly WJ3 by now. I never thought I’d say this but Jay Gruden had more accountability than CFL (Coach for Life aka Rivera) does. The worst part was the fans arguing for it like it was okay. They need to just officially retire the number so we don’t have to deal with this every time a new safety comes aboard. They all love and emulate Sean Taylor.

"A lack of pressure on opposing quarterbacks has left the secondary exposed" I agree with him that if our DL isn’t getting home and we need to come up with some blitzes to force the QBs into incompletions & making mistakes which will help our secondary bc the front 4 isn’t getting home. That being said, to me the bigger problem is the back 7, not the front 4. The back 7 has gaping holes in it so the opposing QBs and WRs are having an easy pitch and catch bc our defenders aren’t covering well or they’re not matching to offensive players well when they come into the their zones. The front 4 can’t get home if the secondary can’t even hold its coverage for even 3 seconds.

In the defense of Mayhew & Hurney, they haven’t even been here a full year yet. They may not be the answer we need, but we need more than one off-season to find out.
