Lions release LB Jamie Collins

It sounds like he probably just didn't want to be here. If he wasn't interested in playing hard and teaching young guys what to do then there is no place for him on this team. Quite frankly, he looked like he had mentally checked out this year. He did the same thing in Cleveland.

Yes, he's probably more physically talented than the other guys that we have right now. It doesn't matter if he isn't interested in trying.

He'll probably go to a contender (or the Patriots) and have a good season because he'll be motivated again.

Apparently we are carrying about $54 million in dead cap charges this year.  I think most of that will come off the books for 2022 though.

Yeah this is correct and it's an appropriate thing to do to a veteran. It's not class-less or classy either. Dudes way over paid, not real role with the Lions being he doesn't play special teams. The right thing to do was trade him( the day of or day after you said you had suitor? ) or release him so he can sign else-where for the veteran minimum and have a shot to win/play.

All the same teams that were players in the trade market should still be in play for veteran minimum.

Idk if it's "he didn't want to be here" or if he didn't have a role. IDC who you are, but especially Collins, the salary he gave up was worth whatever he had to put up with. He'll never likely get a shot at a multi-million dollar salary again the rest of his life.

Not saying he'll be broke or not earn a few more veteran minimum contracts but giving up 3 million in salary is tough.
