Week 5: Jets vs Falcons in London

People freaking out on LaFleur need to realize this is a team effort on offense.  Does he have some issues to work out you bet but putting this on him only is so lazy.

Zack need to be better, the OL needs to be better, and the WRs need to be better too.  This is a team effort of ineptitude on offense.  I mean Moore is schemed open by LaFleur in the second half but the OL allows a DT to penetrate which forced Zack to spin out and roll to his left not allowing him to hit a wide open Moore on a cross.  LaFleur then schemes Crowder wide open in the flat who would have gotten 8 yards before a defender got close to him when we were in the red zone but Zack throws it at his feet.  First drive of the game Zack spins out hits Crowder on the chest for a first and he drops it.

People trying to pin this on LaFleur calling for his firing are just looking for a scape goat.  Open your eyes and see he's not the only issue.  This is a collective effort on offense.  We can't ever have everything work together at once.  It's either a terrible play call, Zack being a rookie, the OL allowing our RBs to get hit 3 yard behind the LOS or the WRs just not coming down with the ball.  This is not LaFleur issue this is a team issue.

LaFleur passing concepts have not been anything west coast like we thought. Everything is downfield and taking way too long to develop, but yes often times when things are schemed open Zach is missing them or the line is getting blown up. This just was not even close to the passing offense we envision in the offseason. These have been so far from shannahan passing concepts. I get that Zach likes to throw down field but his accuracy is god awful and often times our receivers aren’t winning the route until it’s essentially a broken play. I don’t disagree that is a team effort of ineptitude you are correct, but our lack of offensive adjustments are a huge concern. It’s clearly not working and it’s failure in pretty epic fashion.

There are plenty of short quick passes that are being called and available to Zack.  He's either not taking them or missing them.  Add to it he's also not taking easy yards with his feet when he breaks the pocket.  It's great that he keeps his eyes down field but when you have an easy 6-7 yards of open space and you force a ball into coverage it's not helping anyone.

Much of this falls on Zack.  You can say adjust but this is the offense.  Time for Zack to start hitting these simple plays.  Throwing the ball off the back of your line men's head on an RB screen or the feet of open WRs on bubble screens is just really bad.  What is LaFleur supposed to do when Zack can't even execute the easy things consistently?

This is the NFL, Zack needs to be better.  I'm not even down on him or LaFleur though it's growing pains for both.  It's tough to watch but just look around the league at these young QBs it's not pretty anywhere.

Morning football. And another chance for us to maybe get a win with ATL not looking like that strong of a team.

On defense ATL is a hard team to gage. They're for sure not a great group... but they actually rank middle of the pack in pass and rush D.

BUT..... somehow they're giving up a league worst 32 points a game. So where our defense has looked about middle of the pack as well. We aren't giving up the TDs like they have. Regardless... this should be a team we can score on. Maybe a great time for Wilson to have a breakout game.

We come into this game easily the worst team on offense (we have only averaged 12pts a game, where the 2nd to last team sits at 16). So we surely aren't scaring anyone. But this can be a game to get Wilson going.

On defense the only thing I'm worried about is Patterson. Our main weakness on defense has been screen passes to the RB. Patterson is dangerous with the ball in his hand receiving at RB (3 TDs just last week alone). So if we can contain that... I think we can win. If we cant... we lose IMO.

Prediction....

NYJ: 27

ATL: 21

Wow, you called it perfectly, except you have to switch the teams around.

Positive note, we don’t quit. Team played hard again in the second half. Just not sure how long that will last if the results are the same.

Getting paid millions, and having no guarantees of making the team next year will do that. 15 new players will be on the Jets next year. Yeah they don't quit, not if they want food on the table.

Defense had its worst game of the year today as well. Ryan had all day to throw. ATL had no weapons and still put up 27 on us. No sacks no INTs (embarrassing through 6 games).

On another note is how Moore has done nothing to date. People were talking him about ROY and he’s been relatively garbage through 6 games. Getting outplayed by everyone pretty much.

OL wasn’t all that bad today actually. Wasn’t a strength… but wasn’t a reason for our poor performance on offense. We have the play calling and players to blame mostly.

Imagine having racehorses and using them to pull wagons instead of running in races. Our OC has not utilized what he has effectively. Mim's and Moore are the fastest guys on the team, Moore is a stud, so why is he so little utilized and put into a box offensively. Leflur has to get these guys on the field simultaneously use 4 WR sets, 3 WR set, set one up as a RB. ANYTHING, but get the machine rolling.

The O stinks, because its stagnant.

At least AVT looks good

I feel like every game so far he has had at least one absolutely brutal play. This week was missing that easy block in front of Crowder. If he seals that tackler, it's a big chunk gainer and we are putting up much needed points. Instead the play was blown up and we punt.

In each of the prior two weeks he had calls against him for being way too far down field, negating good plays.

AVT has gotten better every week. This was his best game. WHich is a good sign at least.

The team didn't really show up overall, lackluster squad. The offense needs to show up in first halves. They have yet to score a 1st half TD this season, embarrassing.

They’ve yet to complete a pass in the first quarter this year lol

Jesus. I know its five games but it really has been atrocious. Zach just isnt an NFL QB right now, not really even close.

As a lot of us anticipated, the game is just way too fast for him right now. He doesn’t see the middle of the field. A lot of the sacks he takes are on him. He’s late with a ton of his throws which was all over his college tape.

The Jets should have started a vet this year and eased him in and I bet they are finally starting to realize it

It’s a system issue though. It’s for any and everything. You start anew job straight out of college does that place make you process things right away like you’ve been in the profession for 5 years? No!!! The give you “training wheels” if you will. And guide you Bc they’ve made an investment into you. This staff hasn’t done that. This system isnt simplified for Wilson. Not even for the OL or playmakers for that matter. They brought over a system as if they’re taking over a team a few years into a rebuild. Not a bunch of guys 25 and younger still learning. And Bc it’s complicated for these young guys… it’s all out of sync and with loads of mistakes. Has players thinking too much instead of just playing. That’s a system problem. And until that’s addressed… nothing will change.
