11 years ago it was Alabama that was looking at Tennessee and saying why can't we be them.  They then got Nick Saban.  And the rest is history.

LoL.  No Bama fan has ever uttered such nonsense.  Ever.

Even if Tennessee was where Bama was in the dark years (it wasn't, Tennessee has gone 5 years of the past 7 completely unranked in the AP poll, for Bama you'd have to go all the way to before Bear Bryant to get 5 seasons), hiring Nick Saban is the home run of home runs.

It's like saying "we'd have a great NFL roster if we can take the next Tom Brady in the 6th round". It's a stupid, nonsense, home run expectation that turns off coaches.

It also ignores the confluence of factors that led to what has allowed Alabama to be Alabama. It's not JUST Saban, it's that Saban has assembled a crack staff of coaches and has over what, 50 some odd graduate assistants and other people associated with the program?

You need to literally hit like 10 grand slams in a row to get to where Bama is now, it's not a feasible nor sustainable nor attainable goal. Tennessee's goal should be getting back to a team that can win 9 games consistently, forget national contention, just contend for the freaking division.

Here are the facts:

1. Tennessee has top facilities.  No one doubts that.

2. Tennessee has a lot of money.  Top revenue generator in the SEC.  No one doubts that.

3. Tennessee now has a instate recruiting base that is reaching elite levels.   The claim that Tennessee now has more instate talent than Louisiana, Alabama, and Ohio is a FACT.

Everyone but you doubts number 2.  Alabama generates more money than Tennessee and the only school who makes more off football than Bama is Texas.

#3 is too hilarious to even address.

How old are you?  I remember a time when Alabama was a dumpster fire as bad as Tennessee right now.  Remember the Mike Price era?  A coach Alabama hired and fired before ever coaching one game.

College football is cyclical.  Teams rise and fall all the time.  A few decades ago it was Florida and Tennessee running the SEC.  Now its Alabama and Auburn.  Who knows who it will be next.  I just don't think its crazy for Tennessee fans to expect better than what they've seen the last 10 years.

1. Mike Price was coming off of back to back 10 win seasons at Wazzu. He was a solid hire that didn't work out for personal reasons not related to his coaching ability. I wouldn't call Alabama a dumpster fire for that. That's like calling USC a dumpster fire for hiring Steve Sarkisian. And Alabama wasn't an absolute train wreck, sanctions under Shula aside.

2. Tennessee forced out Fulmer, lost Lame Kitten, and now ran off Butch. The program has struggled mightily with multiple losing seasons, seemingly getting worse, and now the Schiano fiasco makes the entire Athletic Department there look weak and not worth the headache. That makes them a dumpster fire.

3. Tennessee having a bunch of great recruits as a state means little really. Those recruits aren't guaranteed to stay in state. And being a bad program in a talent rich state doesn't do much to help. If that were the case, Ohio U would be owning the MAC left and right and Boise St would have never amounted to squat. You're overselling on that.

4. Tennessee may have a ton of money coming in. So does Texas. Money isn't always everything. And Tennessee's great facilities aren't THAT much higher quality that they trump the competition.

5. You say "all the time" and then reference decades ago. Just sayin.

6. Decades ago, Pittsburgh, Maryland, Syracuse, Minnesota, and Yale claimed National Championships. Army had back to backs in the 40's. Yale, Harvard, Princeton, and even the mighty powerhouse of University of Chicago held titles and appeared dominant. Do they all get to lay claim to great head coaches every cycle?

7. Tennessee only has 2 National Championships ('51 and '98) officially recognized. The rest are "claimed". Those are cute. So, where is this rich history again?

8. Tennessee is a 2nd tier SEC school, regardless of what you say about it. The facts speak for themselves. Hire a good coach, have some good seasons, and build up. But this "we deserve greatness yesterday" attitude is why people are loving to bash you guys.

People need to learn to think about what the typing/saying. If something hasn't been mentioned before the chances are small that you are just some genius so there is probably a very good reason.
