Flatlyner
So there was a 5 way tie with the worst record in the league and you won the tie? Also, find it interesting and kind of worried that they mocked a 2-3 round talent player to you AGAIN at #1. Why in the world..? Bug I'm guessing? The player on top of the board is the prospect my GM told me to scout. It appears it’s a glitch that this player always ends up at the top of the mock cause it was the same last season. That player was DT Bush would ended up being star dev and I got him in the 2nd round. Unfortunately the player the GM told me about this year is 23 years old. MKnight82
2023 NFL DRAFT Time to set up another big board. I’m going to go position by position again with players that interest me. I still need just about everything so all positions are in play. I spent a lot of resources scouting the QBs, with the top 3 prospects 100%. Unfortunately it didn’t really pay off as this is a weak QB class. The top QB, Delvin Richards, is a 6’5” strong arm Qb with ony Great, not Elite arm strength. He’s not an athlete at all. If he were to fall to 19 I’d consider him but I don’t think he’s worth a top 10 pick. McClain and Cooper are the other two first round talent QBs who are good athletes but have weak arms. Garrett Clayton has Elite arm strength, but he’s already 24 years old. If he’s still available in the 3rd round I’ll consider him. That’s pretty much it for Qbs in this class. This is a terrible HB class. UDFA Evan Howard or Rakkim Turner could possibly be worth a very late pick. Turner is better, 4.45 40 with 30 bench reps at 227 lbs. The top WR Jermaine Miller is really good but I already have a legit #1 WR and a ton of other needs, so he’s not going on my big board. WR Bayless is 6’3” and ran a 4.40, if he falls to 2nd he needs to be drafted. WR Bravo is only 5’11” but really fast, another 2nd round consideration. Both are projected to go in the first round though via the mock. Wow, John Woods ran a 4.36 and is 6’5” 232 lbs. He’s projected to go in the 2nd round. WR Luke Woodyard is 6’5” 227 lbs, he ran a 4.47 and has B run blocking. Could make an interesting TE, Round 2-3 prospect. Josh Linsley looks interesting as a Round 3-4 prospect, only 5’11” but fast. TE is not a need. Tyson Harrell is a Day 3 prospect, 6’5” 275 lbs ran a 4.62 with 23 bench reps. I don’t have a lot of info on any of the offensive line prospects. LT Jameel Allison looks like a stud and is in consideration for #1 overall. Its hard to compare him to Derron Jarrett (who went #1 last year) since I only have him 40% scouted but he appears to be comparable from what I do know. Taylor Decker will likely start to decline soon so trading him now could be in my best interest. Matt Gordon looks like a great target for the 2nd round with 35 bench reps, B pass block and B block power. Mike Payton also looks good with 33 reps, A IB, A LB, B Run block. Corey Devoe would make a decent late round pick. There are no LGs worth drafting. OC Chance Freeman is the top Center in the draft but only listed as a Round 2-3 prospect. He’s pretty good with 37 bench reps, A PB power, A pass finesse, B run finesse. Could be a good target in the 2nd. Dalton Byrne is a very similar prospect and should be considered as well, although he’s Round 3-4. Troy Driver also looks draftable as a late round pick. RG Julius Moss is listed as a top 5 talent but only did 32 bench reps and has D injury rating and D stamina. He is not going on my board. Kevin Barden is large at 6’6” 340 lbs and did 38 reps, he’s an option at 19. In fact his entire combine looks better than Moss. RG Rocky Jennings isn’t amazing but could make a decent late round pick. RT Steven Wall did 38 reps and has B pass finesse B run finesse. He would make a good late round pick. Eric McCloud could also make a decent late round pick. LE Jason McGowan is listed as a Top 5 prospect, he’s 6’5” 265 and ran a 4.63 and did 32 reps (which is really high for a DE). He’s also top 5 in the agility drills and has B Finesse Moves. My only concern is his F injury rating. Despite being listed as a top 5 prospect, he’s only projected to go 7th in the mock. He’s a huge boom/bust pick. Niles Barsdale is a power rusher, not an epic combine but decent enough for consideration at 19. The mock sales he’ll be gone though. Deangelo Osgood 9s 6’6” 280 lbs with 32 reps and A Power moves. He could be a DE/DT hybrid and versatile piece on the line. He’s not projected to go in the mock, but it wouldn’t surprise me if he snuck into the back half of the first round. RE Gregory Beckwith is a solid athlete but seems raw. Mock says he’ll be gone early but if he lasts to 19 I would consider him. Max Howard is 6’6” 309 lbs with 33 reps and 1st in shuttle. He also has A power moves. He would convert to DT, and the mock says he would be on the board at 19 for consideration, my issue is that I drafted two star dev DTs last year (they are both pretty low OVRs though). He looks really good I just don’t know if he’s the biggest need. Jaren Batten is not the fastest, but he has really good attributes with A BS, A PM, A PUR. He should be considered at 33. Will McMullen is really fast for a late round prospect. Could be good depth. DT Derrick Vernon is pretty good, but as I said before DT isn’t the biggest need. Still, he ran a 4.74, is 2nd in agility drills and has A FM. He could be a monster pass rusher. The mock has him going 5th. LOLB Percy Hawkins is 6’4” 264 lbs, ran a 4.64 with 28 reps and B FM. If you compare him to LE McGowan, his 4.64 40 (4.63 for McGowan), 28 reps (32), 7.12 3 cone (7.13), 4.60 shuttle (4.51). McGowan is slightly better across the board, plus he’s an inch taller. Hawkins should be available at 19 though. Darin Hancock looks like a decent late round prospect. MLB Kasey Jackson looks really good but I don’t think a non pass rushing linebacker is a first round need. Johnny Wilson is undersized but is a good athlete for a Round 3-4 prospect. Joe Rochester is a very similar prospect to Wilson. ROLB Marcus Barr is projected to go 6th in the mock (ahead of McGowan) but from what I can tell is inferior as an athlete and is only 6’2”. I would rather take McGowan or Hawkins over him. Ross Broyles is undersized but had a great combine, could make a good 3rd round pick. Kurtis Hawthorne ran a 4.57 and should be considered in 4th-5th round range. Marlon Johnson didn’t have the best combine but he’s 6’3” 264 lbs and did 26 reps, could make a decent DE and could be available in late round. Trae Bynes is the top rated CB, and although he’s solid he’s nothing special. He’s projected to go 12th, and I wouldn’t take him that high so there’s no point putting him on the board. Nick Lynn had an average combine, and only has C MC and C ZC, but at least I know those are D or worse plus he’s 6’3”. He’s going to be a 2nd round pick though (the mock actually has him at 32) and that seems high for such a project. Jelani Smallwood is also 6’3”, had an excellent combine, has B MC, A BS and A CTH and A TKL. What a beast! He’s projected to go 30 but I think I’ll seriously consider him at 19. Imani Craig is raw but had a good combine, should be considered in Round 2. Kirk Allen is raw but is a good athlete, Round 3-4 prospect. Calvin Nix is really average but he’s 6’3”, late round prospect. Oh and regarding CB Carl Burrell, the supposed #1 player on the mock draft, the dude had a terrible combine and has D MC and D ZC. He’s not going on my board. FS Roman Gore is an average athlete, and isn’t the greatest in coverage, but he has A BS, A TKL and B HP. He would make a good in the box safety. He will probably go in the 2nd round. SS Zach Cobb is a high end athlete for a Safety. I don’t know any of his important attributes but he’s definitely worth a 2nd round pick. Spencer Meadows isn’t the fastest but the rest of his combine was good, plus he’s got B BS and A CTH. He could make a decent backup, Round 3-4 talent. LT Allison really isn't that great of an athlete, I don't think that's worth a top 5 pick. So IMO its between LE McGowan, DT Vernon, & QB Richards for the top pick. If McGowan didn't have F injury rating he'd be the obvious pick. Richards is not an athlete, and doesn't have a top end arm, plus he's 22. Vernon is a really good prospect but I drafted 2 star dev DTs last year. I think McGowan has to be the pick, but I'm not going to use the #1 pick on him. *TRADE* Patriots Receive #1 overall #158 overall (5) RE Derek Barnett (78) Lions Receive #3 overall Patriots 2024 1st Round Pick Let's hope this doesn't backfire. So the Patriots took WR Jermaine Miller #1 overall, who I had completely forgotten about. That's good for me. The Vikings take LT Jameel Allison #2, I'm on the clock. With the 3rd Pick in the NFL Draft the Detroit Lions select: LE Jason McGowan, Kentucky Speed Rusher (74), Run Stopper (71), Power Rusher (70) - Hidden Dev! 85 SPD, 84 ACC, 86 AG, 84 STR. Should be a huge addition to my defense. I pick again at 19. Wow, the Texans took RG Julius Moss at 4. That is a terrible pick. DT Vernon goes 5 to the Falcons. QB Richards falls to 7 and goes to the Raiders. LE Barkdale goes 8 to the Dolphins. RE Beckwith is the #9 pick to the Jets. WR Max Bayless is taken by the Eagles at 17th. I'm on the clock at 19. Top players on my board are RG Barden, who's got great size and a good combine. He doesn't have the best attributes though. RE Max Howard would convert to DT, has amazing attributes and a pretty good combine. LOLB P Hawkins would be double dipping at edge rusher, he's very comparable to McGowan and could play some snaps at linebacker too. Then there's the 6'3" CB Smallwood, who I think is really good. I think I'm going to trade down again. There are so many guys still on the board I can afford to go down the board a little. *TRADE* Browns Receive #19 overall Lions Receive #24 overall #88 overall (3) #120 overall (4) Let's see who makes it to 24. Percy Hawkins gets drafted 21st to the Bears. And that's it, all of the rest are still available at 24. With the 24th Pick in the NFL Draft the Detroit Lions select: CB Jelani Smallwood, Miami Man to Man (75), Slot (75), Zone (73) - Hidden Dev! He's 6'3", 95 SPD, 90 ACC, 92 AG. He should be a legit #1 corner. I'm on the clock again at 33. RG Barden, RE Howard, WR Bravo, & CB Lynn are all gone. Top players available are LE Osgood, who's a versatile player that could help complete my starting Dline. RE Batten isn't as good as Osgood. CB Craig is a good athlete but raw. WR John Woods is a huge target that is an average athlete. With the 33rd Pick in the NFL Draft the Detroit Lions select: LE Deangelo Osgood, UNC Power Rusher (75), Run Stopper (71), Speed Rusher (69) - Another Hidden Dev! He's going to start at LE, but probably move inside to DT on nickle sets. 81 SPD, 83 ACC, 83 AG, 84 STR. I'm on the clock again at 40. RE Batten is gone. CB Craig and WR woods are still available. I want to consider SS Cobb here though too. He's a really good athlete and Safety is a huge need for me. With the 40th Pick in the NFL Draft the Detroit Lions select: SS Zach Cobb, Ole Miss Hybrid (77), Zone (77), Run Support (74) - 4 for 4 hidden dev. Really needed some new blood at Safety. He's an elite athlete for the position, 93 SPD, 93 ACC, 85 AG. I don't pick again until the 3rd round. My board got hammered in the last 10 picks, a lot of guys gone. With the 65th Pick in the NFL Draft the Detroit Lions select: OC Chance Freeman, Alabama Power (76), Pass Protector (72), Agile (72) - OMG HIDDEN DEV 5 in a row! 90 STR. Not sure what I'm going to do with this guy. Probably start at LG. I have 3 more picks in the 3rd. Honestly probably too many picks. I'm going to try to flip some of these picks for future ones. I have picks 72, 83 & 88 coming up. With the 72nd Pick in the NFL Draft the Detroit Lions select: QB Garrett Clayton, Washington State Strong Arm (65), Field General (61), Improviser (57), Scrambler (57) - Normal dev, broke the streak but I knew it would. This is a need pick. He's already 24 so not ideal, but I really needed a backup QB. He has 94 Throw Power. Crap I should have waited to take the QB, my board just got hammered. Almost all of my Round 3-4 guys are gone. *TRADE* Raiders Receive #83 overall Lions Receive Raiders 2024 3rd Round Pick Raiders 2024 4th Round Pick With the 88th Pick in the NFL Draft the Detroit Lions select: ROLB Kurtis Hawthorne, Georgia Speed Rusher (66), Run Stopper (64), Power Rusher (61), Pass Coverage (56) - Normal dev. 86 SPD, 90 ACC, 76 AG. Should be decent depth. I have picks 97, 111, 120 & 127 in the 4th. With the 97th Pick in the NFL Draft the Detroit Lions select: OC Troy Driver, Florida Pass Protector (72), Power (70), Agile (70) - Normal dev. Needed some Oline depth. 88 STR. With the 111th Pick in the NFL Draft the Detroit Lions select: RE Will McMullen, Oregon State Speed Rusher (70), Run Stopper (64), Power Rusher (63) - Normal dev. 86 SPD, 81 ACC, 83 AG, 79 STR. Decent depth. With the 120th Pick in the NFL Draft the Detroit Lions select: TE Tyson Harrell, Iowa State Possession (72), Vertical (71), Blocking (65) - Normal dev. He's huge, 83 SPD, 84 ACC, 80 AG. Great athlete. With the 127th Pick in the NFL Draft the Detroit Lions select: LOLB Darin Hancock, Michigan State Speed Rusher (64), Run Stopper (64), Power Rusher (62), Pass Coverage (62) - Normal dev. 85 SPD, 90 ACC, 81 AG. I was going to trade this pick but couldn't get any good offers. Good athlete should be decent depth. Traded 5th round pick to the Dolphins for a future 4th. With the 135th Pick in the NFL Draft the Detroit Lions select: RT Eric McCloud, Western Michigan Power (65), Agile (62), Pass Protector (58) - Normal dev. 87 STR. More oline depth. Traded 5th round pick to the Seahawks for a future 5th. With the 161st Pick in the NFL Draft the Detroit Lions select: HB Rakkim Turner, Auburn Power Back (61), Elusive Back (59), Receiving (46) - Normal dev. Backup RB prospect. With the 209th Pick in the NFL Draft the Detroit Lions select: K Cole Sands, Maryland Power (66), Accurate (63) - Took a stab on a kicker. Only 84 kick power. He's getting cut. That wraps the draft.
