Game #6 - Sun, Oct 17 @ Washington

Despite the first half offensive atrocity, it was a good team win. Defense showed up and did its job.

That said, I'm nervous for next week. Derrick Henry, AJ Brown, and Julio Jones is going to be a huge test in seeing if the defense has really turned a corner. Hopefully Chris Jones is back and playing primarily DT.

Well, it could have been worse. It looks like it was worse for the first half and into the second. However, two TD drives of over 90 yards is impressive. The one from the 4 yard line must have been demoralizing for the Washington defense.

While the run game was somewhat effective, it was a Mahomes game with just under 400 yards a 2 TD. One of the Int's hit Hill in the hands.

Clearly, the defense played better. Last year we were very good at generating turnovers. You gotta love a DT grabbing a pass. Usually, they get tipped balls, but Wharton pulled it down like a rebound in hoops.

Did Gordon get any reps? I watched the whole game and don’t remember seeing him.

Yes, but no passes thrown his way. The only play that I vividly remember seeing him in was when he did a poor job at run blocking. I'd guess he had less than 10 snaps.

Tennessee, this year, has not been who they were a year and two years ago, for what it's worth. Tannehill has not been nearly as efficient, Brown has been pretty invisible, and even Henry is averaging a full yard per carry less than last year.

Snap counts show several things.

Defense:

Thornhill and Fenton 100%, Hughes 80%, Sorensen 32%. No comment needed.
Clark 81%, Danna 59%, Okafor 49%. Ideally, you want Clark about 70% and Okafor around 10%.
Niemann 73%, Bolton 66%, Gay 31%, Hitchens 19%. Bolton is here to stay. Who plays with him?

Offense:

Niang 1%.  Lucas was mostly out. Remmers did a solid job.
Robinson 70%, Hardman 60%, Hill 57%, Pringle 39%, Gordon 13%. Hill was part time but, apart from the interception, he was effective. Hardman had his best game.
Williams 72%, McKinnon 28%. Right at 3-1. Mixed results.
Kelce 72%, Gray 46%, Fortson 11%. Kelce played less than usual. Gray will be getting a lot of work with Fortson gone and Blake injured.

The defense played well in the second half. Look who was on the field.

Film review of the defense.

The Chiefs have been compared to the Golden State Warriors. Offensively, the comp is obvious. Defensively, the Warriors are deceptively good. while they give up points, they are adept at short stretches where harass the other team into turnovers and bad shots. Last season the Chiefs were like that, leading the league in pick-6 interceptions and among the leaders in turnover margin. We saw glimpses of that as the defense threw a shut out in the second half.
