Oh Baker. Playing himself out of an extension.

Baker gets his 5th year option for sure

But you can't give him more than a Carr type of contract.. you just can't

He's a fine starter on a good team. You can make the playoffs with him. You can probably win a ring with him if his salary is such that you can put a good team around him.

But he isn't a franchise QB. He's not. You can't pay him 30, 35, 40 per year. If he won't sign for 20, you have to let him walk. I know the Browns haven't had a good QB in forever, but you can't get buried with this guy.

Baker is about the 15th best QB in the league. The question is do you give the 15th best QB in the league a second contract

he's not going to sign for 15th best QB money. Easy answer or "no" if football product is the only consideration.

But it's not, owner will consider his continued sellability and ability to get CLE home playoff games and extra $$$ going forward.

That’s how teams get trapped

If that contract is 20M? Fine

If that contract is 35M? Not a chance in hell

The Browns need everything to be perfect around Baker just to have a chance to be successful. OBJ obviously isn’t working for Baker. No Landry and no Chubb and I think both starting OTs are out. The Browns are a loss cause bc Baker isn’t that QB that can carry the team when some of the pieces are down.

On the flip side, the Cards continue to impress me. Yes they aren’t perfect but they are so scary. People can talk up the Bucs and Cowboys as the best team in the NFC but the Cards have a lot to say about that.
